studio visit @ifrah.studio in digbeth / @ortgallery artist in residence sis / april 2026 / latex & snakeskin šŸŒž it was such a privilege making time to visit the world of my fellow @ortgallery artist-in-residence, ifrah sagheer. āœļø i played with latex for the first time, making an udder + cow combo, and generously mined ifrah’s mind for art thoughts and ideas. a deep curiosity for the material world, textures and biological shapes guided our chatting and our playtime. ✨ we talked future plans, drawing, craftsmanship and working with our hands / expanding skills / curation and experimentations / music links / thank you for such a fun insightful start to the saturday ifrah! šŸ™šŸ¼ very much look forward to meeting at my studio coming up. . . . #abigailvillarroel #ifrahsagheer #ortgallery #artistinresidence #birmingham

This year’s IWD theme is Give to Gain, so we’re using the room to share platforms, opportunities and energy with the girls powering and shaping Birmingham’s creative scene ✨ The evening starts with open decks available by sign up (link in bio) before DJ sets from the babes @essie_mixes Moho resident and recently spotted at BCFC, Essie’s sets always have me bouncing around, no matter which genre she’s taking us through šŸ•ŗšŸ½ @mishaproductions Her Sigil residency spins heads every month šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« whether she’s cutting blends herself or curating the sound through her guests any lineup you see either of these two at, you better cop first release ticketsā€¼ļøwe’re all also @saffronmusic @mixnights alumni, platforms that continue to support women, non-binary and trans DJs & producers Spoken word: @oolivvee / @olive.poet part of the University of Birmingham’s 2025 Unislam team and @rupinderkw sharing pieces from her latest collection Tigress With Wings šŸ““ Art in the space from @ifrah.studio bringing a selection of her works, displayed through the Bene windows and around the room šŸ–¼ļø @sancha_sancha will be catching shots for anyone who wants to update their library (me, I need to) šŸ“ø Henna in the space, with proceeds going to @cystersgroup , a Birmingham charity supporting menstrual, maternal, menopausal and mental health for marginalised communities šŸ«‚ There’s also a form in my bio and story to join the DUNYA directory of creatives in Birmingham, so it’s easier for us to be found and find each other, collaborate, get booked and TAKE MORE SPACE šŸ’«šŸ’«šŸ’« There are so many more amazing IWD events happening across the city this weekend and I love to see it. Shout-out @beneculture @bene.radio and the lads each and everytime. The community speaks for itself. 🫔

Meet @ifrah.studio our second and final Deliberation Artist in Residence of 2026 ✨ Ifrah’s practice and material interrogations of producing abject objects relies upon sensorial textures and appearances in order to evoke feelings of uncomfortableness, yet familiarity within the viewer. They create post-humanist forms which have sensorial qualities and use materials like flock to represent hair, or latex which acts as skin or silicone as flesh. By utilising skin and flesh like materials they are able to mimetically reproduce aspects of the human body, which helps to elicit a familiarity with the viewer’s body and the sculptural bodies. By establishing a bodily similarity with the viewer and the sculpture, desires of interaction within the viewer are awoken – eliciting a wanting to touch or to physically interact with the sculptures.

ā€˜pores & all’ (84.6 x 123.7 x 5.3cm) [silicone, latex, flock] The work explores how skins and bodies can be reimagined into sensorial forms that can interact and inspire feelings of desire yet uncomfortability within the viewer. By mimicking flesh like forms the work aims to establish a familiarity with the body yet moves further into becoming its own bodily form. presented @createspacebrum being human exhibition on 15/11/2025 & @agempresents and @birminghammind charity event hosted by @sugarb0n on 29/11/2025
