Have fully transformed into the strange bird creature I was born to be. Saves loads when it comes to public transport, you should try it. Sqwawk. Come to Druids Heath, between Chinn Brook and the ancient oak tree to learn about all the birds in the area, see some art, get a free poster and see me dressed as a shiny bird. A glimpse into last Saturday’s event at the MAC. What a beautiful morning we shared! Our imagination and creativity flourished in a time when patience, dedication, and community gathering feel like an act of urgency. Together, we experienced Masharawi’s film—a gentle call for liberation and a metaphor for resilience that reminded us of the radical power of hope and love. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended; our work would not be possible without your constant support. We also want to share our gratitude for our wonderful workshop leader, Sharonjit Sutton Kaur @ideasloading , for sharing her talent and hosting such a wonderful workshop for us all. Have enjoyed facilitating a couple of zine making sessions over the last 2 weeks with @leaf_creative_arts , an organisation that runs dementia friendly creative and reminiscence sessions. Our zines were based around the idea of a 'homing pigeon'. Inside we drew, collaged and wrote about our memories of home - complete with self portraits of ourselves as pigeons on the front! This organisation does such wonderful work, and demonstrates the importance of creativity for everyone 🫶🏼 P.S. Thanks @k_eslie for printing the zine templates out for us 😊

Falasteen on Film presents :: Midlands Premiere & Origami Bird Workshop with Sharonjit @ideasloading Join us next Saturday 17th January at @macbirmingham with a special screening of Rashid Masharawi’s 2024 film, Passing Dreams. 12 year old Samy goes on a one-day journey from a refugee camp in the West Bank through Bethlehem, Old Jerusalem and Haifa. Accompanied by his uncle and cousin, Samy is on a mission to find his missing bird, leading to a deeply moving exploration of Palestinian cities and the search for home. Before the film, take part in a drop in creative session led by multi-disciplinary artist Sharonjit Kaur Sutton @ideasloading , to craft your very own origami pigeon hanging decoration.
