2nd February 2026 ✨ Women & the Wild ✨ On the 2nd of February as Scotland honours Brigid on the day of Imbolc - welcoming the first stirrings of spring- Brazil honours Yemanjá, Queen of the Ocean. Two celebrations, different lands — the same pulse. 🔥 Brigid (Brìghde) is one of the great goddesses of the Celtic world, guardian of fire, poetry, healing and transformation. At Imbolc, she signals the moment when winter begins to soften and life quietly prepares to return. She is the hearth fire that protects and gathers, the spark of creativity, the blessing of wells and springs. Later carried into Christian tradition as Saint Brigid, her ancient feminine power endured — resilient, nurturing, and deeply rooted. 🌊Yemanjá, Mother of all Orixás/Orishas, is venerated in Brazil and across the Caribbean as the Queen of the Ocean. Originating from the Yoruba people of West Africa, where she is known as Yemoja — “Mother of Fish” — she is the protector of fishermen, often depicted as a mermaid. She embodies the feminine principle of creation, moonlight, fertility, womanhood and family. Fire and water. Hearth and ocean. Brigid and Yemanjá remind us that ancestral feminine wisdom lives on — shaping how we care for the land, the sea, and each other. At IberoDocs, we continue to honour the deep connection between women, nature and ancestral wisdom — across territories, waters and traditions. 🌿 Illustrations by: Brigid — @bayley.elaineillustrations Yemanjá — @nikila_mamawisdom1 🎶 by our musical goddess Giulia Drummond singing to Yemanjá 🧜‍♀️

✨ 💜 What a journey! 💜✨ Here we are - almost the whole IberoDocs 2025 team - standing at the door of what we consider our home, the much-missed Filmhouse. And on the other side of the road, our very first ever poster on a bus shelter! Our 11th edition has now come to an end, and honestly, we couldn’t have asked for more. After 10 years of running in spring, this year we moved to September to reach more communities. The response has been overwhelming: an average 80% attendance, almost full capacity in all Edinburgh events, and 8 sold-outs. 💥 Your feedback has touched us deeply: 📝“The team has a lovely positive energy and the movies I’ve seen were always so creative and moving. The programme really gives an opportunity to discover artists outside of the mainstream.” 📝 “Very enjoyable indeed. I was impressed by the film, the venue, the organisation, the people who spoke to the audience, the young translator who did such a fine job, and the quality of the wine (!).” 📝“Please continue the good work. Your mission is very important. Thank you for doing this. Congratulations.” To our incredible team — thank you for the Olympic-level work you’ve done this year, and for keeping the soul of IberoDocs alive and beating. 💪✨ And to our audiences, friends, and supporters — gracias, obrigada, thank you for being with us on this journey. You are the reason we keep going. 🌎💜 Here’s to new horizons, and to the ocean that connects us all. 🌊 Mar Felices @screenscots @filmhubscotland @cgedimburgo @acecultura @camoesip @institutocervantesmanchester @filmhouse_edinburgh @ifecosse @gmacfilm @abertayuni #IberoDocs2025 #ThankYou #DocumentaryLove #filmfestival #indiefilm #docufest #iberoamericano

🗣️“After all, there is only one ocean that touches every coast, connecting us all. If the sea is not free, we cannot be free.” Yesterday in Dundee we learned about Ximena Aguilar Vega’s giant research with glaciers and heard from Dr Rebecca Wade about her work with water systems, giving us the perfect ending to IberoDocs 2025. We all left with a powerful call to action: to open our senses, feel our environment and strengthen our connection with it. Thank you☀️Dundee☀️ for making us feel so welcomed! And in particular to @abertayuni , Dr Rebecca Wade @carrottes , @ximena.av , @marta.m.film , @docnomads and all those who came along yesterday 🙏 Although our film screenings have now finished, there’s still time to enjoy a piece of IberoDocs! Our exhibition Womanhood & Fear, featuring the work of @pilardeleaniz and @drayamadu which invites viewers to reflect on the personal and collective anxieties tied to womanhood, is free to view at Edinburgh’s McDonald Road and Fountainbridge libraries until Sunday 🎨 #IberoDocs2025 #filmfestival #indiefilm #docufest #iberoamericano #thankyou #dundee #visitdundee #doitallindundee

🧜‍♀️ “For me, the sea is a place that calms me. When you’re near it, you feel how much we’re made of water, there’s a balance. And when I had a daughter, I had no doubt - I knew she had to be called Mar [“Sea”]. The sea is central in this family.” We had the pleasure of sitting down for an interview with Blow! director Neus Ballús (@neusballus ) alongside her mother and daughter. Three generations from the same family shared what the sea means to them, alongside family and filmmaking. This was a very special moment for us, as many of Neus’ films have been part of our programmes over the years. All of us at IberoDocs are delighted to be a festival that filmmakers and artists return to, time and time again! With special thanks to: @acecultura 🙌 🌊 Blow! will be screening alongside the rest of our short film programme, The Sea, in Dundee tomorrow. These four powerful short films by women filmmakers reflect on our complex relationship with the ocean and coastal life. The screening includes a panel discussion with Dr Rebecca Wade (Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science, @abertayuni ) and Ximena Aguilar Vega (polar scientist, artist and PhD researcher at the @universityofstirling ). This BSL-interpreted discussion will explore how we relate to our environment, and what we can do, with two innovative women who study sustainable water systems and our place within them. 📅 25 Sep, 6pm 📍 cyberQuarter, Abertay University 🎟️ Tickets in bio! #IberoDocs #filmfestival #Dundeeevents #indiefilm #docufest #interview #filmmaker #family #familyinterview #dundee #visitdundee #doitallindundee

🌊 THE SEA x DUNDEE A new environmental strand within IberoDocs, The Sea brings together four powerful short films by women filmmakers that reflect on our complex relationship with the ocean and coastal life. In a special Dundee finale to IberoDocs 2025, this screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Dr Rebecca Wade (Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science, Abertay University) and Ximena Aguilar Vega (polar scientist, artist and PhD researcher at the University of Stirling). This BSL-interpreted discussion will explore how we relate to our environment, and what we can do, with two innovative women who study sustainable water systems and our place within them. This is an event for film lovers and nature lovers alike, exploring the complex relationships between humans and coastal life.  Together, the four short films form a resonant chorus – stories of memory, longing, survival, and transformation – each uniquely anchored by the voices and visions of women. All screenings are captioned for HOH audiences: HELLO SEA! 🎥 María Goya Barquet (@maria.goya.barquet ) Driven by the director’s own connection to the sea, this personal and poetic documentary explores what the sea means in a landlocked country. BLOW! 🎥 Neus Ballús (@neusballus ) Mar dreams of being able to record the sound of whales. But she realizes that in order to listen to the world’s largest animal, one has to be silent. PERCEBES 🎥 Alexandra Ramires, Laura Gonçalves (@la_lauragoncalves ) With the sea and the urban Algarve as a background, we follow a complete cycle of the life of a special shellfish called PERCEBES, goose barnacle. SPIRITS & ROCKS: AN AZOREAN MYTH 🎥 Aylin Gökmen (@aylin__gokmen ) From the ocean, a volcanic island rises. Where mist and myth entwine, residents endure the restless earth’s fiery volatility with reverence and awe. 📅 Thu Sep 25 🕕 6pm 📍 @abertayuni (cyberQuarter) 🎟️ Ticket link in bio! With thanks to: @docnomads , @acecultura , @camoesip , @filmhubscotland , @screenscots and @marta.m.film 🧜‍♀️ #IberoDocs2025 #FilmFestival #IndieFilm #DocumentaryFilm #DocuFilm #DocuFest #CineIberoamericano #dundeeevents
