@dontoliver always knew a number one record was in the cards. “It kind of felt inevitable,” the musician told Hypebeast. It took five studio albums to get here, but ‘Octane’ proved itself to be the instant-classic he always believed he was destined to make. But despite the whirlwind success, he’s thinking about the long road ahead.
“I create music through an old-school lens. Marvin Gaye, Prince, all those guys made classic records that I still listen to today, and I want that same type of longevity.”
In a wide-ranging interview, Toliver lays out his plans for what’s next: “You can’t take your hands off the wheel. You’ve got to understand the responsibility.”
