Randall ‘Sickamore’ Medford [ @sickamore ] grew up making and selling mixtapes on Canal Street, before we even had a language for that kind of taste-making. A sense of branding and design ran underneath everything Sickamore did, and to him an artist’s world was more than just their music.
That sensibility hasn’t shifted. From working as an A&R with Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, YG, and Don Toliver, and now through his own label, Three Times Louder [ @threetimeslouder ], Sickamore’s work has always moved between sound, image, and identity all at once. We were thrilled to host Sickamore in the vowels Research Library to discuss how this unique perspective evolved and his references behind it.

We’re living in a Renaissance of creativity, and Three Times Louder is here to amplify the explosion of post-pandemic New York artists. A joint venture between SoundCloud and music industry veteran Sickamore, the “SoHo House of artists” has a diverse roster of buzzy talent, including R2R MOE, Liim, Ovrkast, and Laila!.
“New York has become incredibly undervalued in the music scene. There’s some real monsters here, and people are sleeping on us,” shared Sickamore. Before becoming CEO of the young music label, he once managed Nicki Minaj and, more recently, Don Toliver. But most famously, he’s helped artists find their sound and launch their careers.
“I saw a need for a full-service space for a community of artists, and I set out to create one.”
