I personally met Ummi when she was running a workshop on Langkawi Island. Ummi is a natural dye artist based in KL, Port Dickson, and the UK. She reached out to us in March, telling us she would be having an art installation in Pasar Chow Kit, and that all the textiles displayed would be dyed using colors from waste collected around KL. We said YES without hesitation! Our first meeting was Ummi bringing us around Pasar Chow Kit, one of the most famous markets in the center of Kuala Lumpur. We also visited her studio in Port Dickson, where she does most of her work, and we followed her for two days while the exhibition was running in Pasar Chow Kit. It was amazing to see how people reacted to her art installation. There were vendors, passersby who had just finished shopping, cleaners, and of course Ummi’s longtime fans who came to visit her work. You could see the curiosity in their eyes; some questioned what the work was about, while others gave feedback on how they felt. This documentary took us three weeks to produce, and we hope you enjoy it. There will be more BTS videos coming soon. Once again, congratulations on the exhibition, @duniamotif .
