NY Studio by Nhitrisya
my journey with photography began in 2019 — what started as curiosity quickly became something deeper. over time, I found myself drawn to everything: documenting real moments, capturing people, exploring culture, and telling stories in different forms. that versatility became a part of who I am as a creative.
NY Studios reflects that — a space where I don’t just take photos, but adapt, create, and tell stories across events, portraits, and cultural narratives with intention.
alongside it, The Laddu Lens is a more focused extension of my work — centred on portraits, culture, and stories, capturing emotion in every frame.
this isn’t just a brand.
it’s my journey, my growth, and the many ways I choose to see and tell the world.
In the heart of Kuala Lumpur, where the city moves fast and relentlessly, devotion slows time.
At Kuil Sri Maha Muniswarar during Thiruvizha, faith is not only spoken — it is carried through the body. Devotees walk barefoot along heated streets, each step a quiet act of endurance, each movement guided by purpose rather than pain.
Bodies are pierced, not as spectacle, but as offering. What may appear as suffering becomes something deeper — a fulfilment of vows, a connection between the physical and the spiritual, a visible expression of belief.
In these moments, the boundary between strength and surrender disappears. Pain transforms into devotion, and the ordinary streets of Brickfields become a sacred space where faith is lived, not just felt.
These are the unseen echoes of Kuala Lumpur — where, beneath the surface of a modern city, devotion continues to endure.

No stage.
No script.
Only vows carried through flesh and spirit.
Thiruvizha is where belief becomes visible —
in sweat, in silence, in surrender.
Documenting devotion as it is.
This is Thiruvizha.
No filters.
No performance.
Coconuts carried.
Limes pierced.
Bodies tested.
Faith unwavering.
Devotion here is not symbolic —
it is physical.
Drums echo.
Smoke rises.
Faith moves.
Thiruvizha is not just witnessed —
it is felt in the chest,
carried in the body,
offered with everything we have.
Devotion, alive.
Every lime carries a prayer.
Every coconut holds a vow.
What looks like preparation
is actually devotion taking form.
Thiruvizha doesn’t start with noise —
it starts with intention.
Coconuts stacked.
Limes pierced.
Hands steady.
Devotion is not spontaneous —
it is prepared with endurance.
Before the Thiruvizha begins,
faith is already at work.
Some people pray with folded hands.
I pray with a camera in mine.
Every frame is intention.
Every click, an offering.

Thaipusam, practiced within an estate community, reflects faith as a daily and collective act. Removed from large-scale processions, devotion takes shape through quiet endurance and shared discipline. Directed toward the one, these moments were observed and documented as they occurred, preserving the ritual in its lived and familiar form.

Observed within an estate setting, Thaipusam unfolds as a lived and intimate ritual. Devotion is practiced in familiar spaces, along narrow paths, between homes, and within the community itself. Each vow is directed toward the one, shaped by endurance, discipline, and collective belief. These photographs document the festival as it was experienced, without staging or intervention.
