[LECTURE] DIY loudspeaker design - Introduction to hornloaded loudspeakers – theory and building guidance w/ Horner Audio We will demonstrate the thought process and the software and hardware tools needed to enable the participants to dive into the DIY loudspeaker world. On the example of hornloaded speakers, the participants will learn about the inherent compromises of acoustic designs and how to chose the right paramters for their applications using simulation software and applying the presentated physic laws to their usecase. About Horner Audio & Carlo Hermann As Horner Audio, Carlo Hermann and his team develop, build, integrate and optimize loudspeaker systems for professional applications. Carlo Hermann’s fascination with loudspeaker technology, product development and professional audio has been driving his work for more than a decade. Shortly after beginning his studies in mathematics, he realized that acoustics and audio engineering were where he wanted to dedicate his time and passion. He deepened his knowledge by analyzing patents, exchanging ideas with professionals in the industry, and choosing acoustics as a focus subject at university. In 2015, Hermann designed and built his first fully self-developed sound system after mastering the necessary simulation software. This achievement became the foundation for deploying advanced sound reinforcement systems and led to his self-employment in the field. Over the years, Carlo Hermann has built an international network of technicians and engineers, exchanging expertise through collaborative projects, discussions on new technologies and extensive reverse engineering. Together with his team, he also established a fully equipped woodshop, allowing Horner Audio to remain fully independent in product development and manufacturing. The mission of Horner Audio is to deliver the highest fidelity and provide customized acoustic solutions for spaces where people come together creating unforgettable moments through music. Already three years have passed since the project „Cura Berlin“ transformed a parking lot in the very center of Berlin into a place for people to come together, enjoy cultural events, talks, and, of course, party. Not just for a night, but for an entire summer, even amidst the covid pandemic. With the implementation of an endfire array to steer the bass away from the neighbours and a highly directional top section, we were able to achieve sound pressure levels that nobody believed would be possible in this central open-air location. We are grateful for @curaberlin and @draussenstadt trusting in us and having created amazing memories during a time when it seemed impossible to host such events!
