Thank you to everyone who came to the Mary Newcomb talk on Wednesday with @tessanewcomb and myself @henry__comb - we hope you all enjoyed it?
The event was recorded in full, with two cameras and audio, once I have the footage and have edited it together it will be put on youtube, including the filmed studio visit. Probably in the next month, several people have messaged the account asking about it - please allow some time. It will be shared via @marynewcomb.archive and will also be sent out to everyone who booked a ticket for the event, and the waiting list.
The talk and recording it was supported by @assemblyhousetrust as part of @nnfest .
The exhibition will stay up until 20 July, free and open daily 9–5.
Started working out a live setup tonight, and while experimenting made this, always a good time to come up with things when sorting cables. Planning to play live with hardware again - aiming for September. I find it very hard to keep setup minimal, but trying to not use the heavy DX21 or M1 😔
Forgot to bring my Mackie12channel back to studio tonight, so ended up playing on the big one, not taking a 22channel to gigs. So good having everything on separate channels though!

I got invited to do a jazz focussed session on Sunday, 6-10pm at @birchnorwich - picked out a bunch of stuff I’ll be taking. There’s a new menu, sunday roast inspired, and new cocktails.

Finally got my boxes of books out of studio storage, so nice to have things back out. I made these shelves in Dec to fit between wonky walls with cables in, they are wedged in rather than fixed at the sides. The shelves have been hungry for books and finally have a full plate. ‘Mary Newcomb: A Life Recorded’ a new exhibition at The Assembly House, Norwich. Free entry and open daily 9–5 until 20 July. The exhibition brings together Mary’s writing, painting, ceramics, and previously unexhibited drawings of Norfolk.

There is a talk event planned as part of @nnfest but it is fully booked with a waiting list. I hope to record the event, at least as audio, and make it available to those unable to attend.
Mary Newcomb (1922-2008) was a self-taught artist who settled in rural East Anglia. Her life and art were rooted in everyday observation and the natural world. Her unique visual language and poetic vision closely aligned with her writing. This exhibition includes her paintings, working drawings, and writing.
Mary studied at Reading University for a degree in Natural Sciences and went on to teach science and mathematics before moving East to volunteer and lodge at Flatford Mill. She met Godfrey Newcomb in Walberswick, they married and moved to a small farm in the Waveney valley where they set up Needham Pottery, mainly producing commercial functional wares. For several years in the 1960s they rented a room for a week at The Assembly House to sell ceramics. Mary became a member of the Norwich 20 Group and the Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle.
Newcomb’s first solo show was held at Crane Kalman Gallery in London in 1970 and the gallery has regularly held exhibitions of her work since. In 2009 Mary Newcomb’s Odd Universe, A Memorial Exhibition, was held at Norwich Castle, and in 2021 Compton Verney in Warwickshire held Nature’s Canvas, a large retrospective.

Social Media can sometime be a nightmare however this time is pretty neat.
I get to play with @henry__comb ( @itraveltoyourecords ) this Saturday at @bauhaus_warehaus because he saw me fiddling with some knobs on the always excellent @everybody_loves_to_boogie YT and sent me a message. We then realised he was in London that week end !
I've been pretty much playing at least one of his reworks in any sets because the man is just so good and I do love them.
That " Por Amor " track was just everywhere.
