@pomppompeypomp ’s adventurous arrangements, the songs also feature a cast of incredibly talented musicians + friends throughout. It’s a stunning, masterful work that expands on the more personal journey of her last record ‘KIND’ — not just sonically through its jazz-infected pop and ensemble ambience, but also in its focus on collective care & communal healing as antidotes to the dissonances of living in a colonial, capitalistic world.
Thanya’s exquisite voice sublimates into passages that call on spiritual jazz, blurring the lines between genre, weaving through gorgeous stacks of alto sax, violin & the celestial revelry of
@emilie_kahn ’s harp. “There’s no need to worry / Wonder what the way is / What you’ll find is nothing / Try to remember you are a part of something,” the last line of the record rings out. Such prescient lessons are a prominent fixture of her work both past + present, but this time the scope of our shared chaos is acknowledged through the sound of a thumping, controlled pop sensibility that says 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩. This record is a reminder to allow ourselves to dream, to trust in our resilience, in our healing, together. 🫂
