Started in 2020, HB Goblet (previously named HB Manner) is an ongoing exercise in drawing different genres with a similar display-oriented treatment. A is loosely based on Folio, B is loosely based on Venus, and C has broader references to the humanist sans genre.
We’re uncertain how far we’ll continue with this or where it will end up, but we’ll continue to share HB Goblet’s development here in the future.
Trials and beta licenses for regular weights are available—please DM for requests.
This past summer we were excited to finally see the work we did for @momaps1 in person. In 2021, we had the opportunity to draw three families for the museum—a bold, condensed geometric sans with sharp details, a lively slab counterpart, and a workhorse text sans.
As proud former Queens residents, it was a huge honor to be able to work on this project, especially alongside such an incredible group of designers.

Spreads from Shoplifters 10: New Type Design Vol. 2 featuring an early version of HB Items (previously named Items). Since then, the family has grown to 6 styles—3 weights with matching italics.
Trial & beta licenses are available. Please DM or email for inquiries.

HB Items has a mix of references—it bears some resemblance to Times Condensed, but also has bits of Vendôme in its sharp serifs and terminals. Its design is an exercise in extrapolation, and started from the number "16-1" found on a sign while we were visiting Japan (35°40'17.8"N 139°42'05.9"E) in 2018.
We used the proportion and contrast from these two numbers to imagine, then draw out the rest of HB Items' character set—eventually adding additional weights and an italic.
Please DM or email for trial and beta licenses.
HB Lossy is a digitization of the typeface found on NY MTA subway receipts—a version of Mincho converted into a low-res pixel font for receipt printer software, then further distorted through crude thermal printing.
