‘Ōpua Mauka in use by designer Kelsey Ige @alohawares for the logo, poster and related assets for the 2026 Lexus Pipe Challenger surf contest at Pipeline, as part of the World Surf League @wsl . Since this typeface collection was designed for Hawai‘i it is extra special to see it used by local designers. And as a surfer I love to see it used for something as iconic as a contest at Pipeline. @fishcakehawaii hosts art classes, workshops, culinary events, offers studio space for artists and artisans, and is a brick and mortar maker’s market in the heart of Honolulu. I was invited to DJ at Fishcake on the first Saturday of 2026 where I also sold CJ Type merch, like this Pennypacker type specimen poster. This event was a wonderful chance to share my type design work and merch, as well as my love of music, with the wonderful folks who frequent @fishcakehawaii in my hometown of Honolulu. It was a truly wonderful way to start the new year. Mahalo nui to Fishcake, their artists and vendors, and everyone who came out to make it such a special day

For the winter season, CJType.com has snow falling down the screen. That snow is made of pixelated emoji from Louvette Pixel. There’s now a “Snowfall: Mega Mode” button at the bottom of the screen that you can click to make the emoji snowfall super sized and animates the pixelated variable font axes of Louvette Pixel. If you use this mode on a mobile browser it will probably make your phone hot, which can be a good hand warmer in the cold, but could also drain your battery. Use with caution ⚠️ and enjoy the chaos 💠

Louvette Pixel Italic in progress. I learned a lot when making Velzyland that turns out to be helpful for this italic pixel font, especially dealing with italic diagonals. It’s also been interesting to see how well it sets without any kerning so far 🦾🤖 #madeWithRobofont

I was honored to have the koinobori (“carp streamer”) I designed on display in Tokyo Midtown in front of 21_21 Design Sight, one of my favorite museums in Tokyo. This koinobori uses my typeface Louvette Pixel, which is my first typeface to include Hiragana, Katakana, and (very limited) Kanji. The design is centered around specificity of time and place, particularly Japan’s 19th microseason in early May: 蛙始鳴 (かわずはじめてなく - “Frogs Start Singing”), its seasonal flower 藤 (wisteria), fish 金目鯛 (kinmedai), vegetable人参(carrot), and event端午の節句(Children’s Day). Thanks again to @aly_ishikuni @mori_hawaii for including me in this project I’m thankful I could see this in person, and ensure that the typography functioned as intended. The large text side is designed to be readable from far away, and the smaller text side works as a texture from far away but encourages viewers to come up close to read the details. From close up, the top text reads clearly even though it’s hung high up above, which is something I was concerned about. Overall, very happy with how this turned out 🎏
