We’re closed on Friday for the strike. Our studio’s projects all depend on a pluralist society that cultivates difference.

Nice to have @washusamfoxschool and @amyauman at the studio this morning! We talked about sight lines and engines that make something from nothing.

Courtesy @printedmatterinc . Design is a feedback loop. On this day 50 years ago, Printed Matter's founders began to bootstrap "a publishing and distributing system for artists' books." We've been involved with its web platform for the last 12 of those years, and distribution systems for creative practice have become a big part of how we see the world. You can also close the loop and make a donation to this storied organization: /support/donate

Designing feedback loops: A rough capture from ~18 years of edits to the Yale School of Art's website – one of our first projects and the longest running, other than the studio itself. Every student, staff person, and faculty member can edit every page of the site – thanks to a CMS platform we developed to let a thousand authors collaborate on a shared public culture through a common set of visual building blocks. That platform, Economy, is simple enough to support self-guided experimentation, with a safe system of permanent, attributed versioning and role-based protections per block. About 65,000 edits have been made to art.yale.edu. Economy now runs the websites of MoMA PS1, The Shed, ICA LA, Museo Jumex in Mexico City, A4 in Cape Town, and many other organizations.

Designing feedback loops: Here's Karel Martens's new speed limit markers in Amsterdam. Making friction in traffic by embedding information into the texture of everyday life.

This little dot is an engine of change. @rocnationdistribution is the only music distribution platform that can synthesize social media integration – who's talking about you – with your music drops and listener insights. Here you can see your mentions spike alongside your new release. It's a core design value of many of Linked by Air's platforms: Design is a feedback loop. Creation inside a platform affects culture outside it, and cultural response feeds back into the platform as insight, evolution, and further creation.

🔈 💐 Our new synesthetic identity for the Tang Museum (@tangteachingmuseum ) has rolled out for its 25th anniversary. The stairstep blocks of the contemporary art museum's iconic building stand in for the ascending and descending four letterforms of Tang, as well as a welcoming musical identity inspired visually by player piano programming. The building is a crossroads of Skidmore's campus, and its mark is now circulating on hats and laptops all around campus and beyond. h/t @h_duppy at the Tang who created many of these applications!

🚀🚀 Simultaneous with pressing launch on ROC Nation distribution, we launched our studio's new website. All content is migrated – plus case studies! It's also the first site built with the new headless, Next.js-fronted version of our longstanding CMS, Economy.

Launched yesterday and currently hockey-sticking: For the past year we’ve been working with @rocnation and @rocnationdistribution to create a transformational platform that brings together art and commerce by bringing major-label music tools to any artist in the world. Sign up and see: rocnationdistro.com We designed and built the full system: Distribution to 200+ streaming platforms. Unified listener, streaming, and social insights from everywhere from Spotify to YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. Automated royalty payouts to every artist, and splits with your collaborators. It's free to sign up and distribute music, anyone can do it, and artists own their masters. Bedroom artists and Grammy winners are on the platform. The interface is designed to feel at home to musicians, more like the pads of a sampler than an accounting system. It grows with artists as their careers grow.

Intersection is one way our clients – and their visitors – realize new worlds using the tools we build together. We’re proud to be part of New York’s cultural fabric. This weekend was the much-anticipated return of our long-time client @printedmatterinc ’s New York Art Book Fair to @momaps1 – also a client. #nyabf2025

Opposition is a design strategy. On @theshedny 's homepage for the past four years, visitors can use "I'm not at the Shed" mode to explore offerings, learn more about artists, get tickets, and go deeper after they're back home; and "I'm at the Shed" mode to demystify their visit to this building on wheels, and make their engagement with it more intimate. You can even cheat and tap "I'm at the Shed" for a preview. A UX in motion for a building in motion.
