When I left my old life and moved into a tiny apartment temporarily with my son, I planted baby heirloom apple trees in front of all the windows because I missed my old garden. Miraculously the trees did not die, they thrived. I transplanted and espaliered them at my new house when I started over. They thrived there, too. Apple trees take a very long time to fruit and I wasn’t expecting what they call “fruitlets” this year. And yet. Here they are. They are the little fuzzy guys in the photo. And they might not make it because these trees are still so young. But wow. Just wow. This kind of shit absolutely makes me marvel at the idea of resilience. I’m not crying you’re crying!
