Dear LA,
I feel honored and privileged to call you my home for the last 10 years. It has warmed my soul to see how we have showed up for eachother in this unimaginable time. I know a lot of people hate on LA or don’t understand why we live here, but I couldn’t be more in love with this city. The people who come from all walks of life…I love you and have learned so much from you all. THANK YOU to the people behind their taco and fruit stands. Your mouth starts to water before you even get to them, the mariachi band at a dodger game, the hardworking immigrants, the puro fans at the dodger and lakers games (we all know it’s more than just a sports event), the picnics set up at echo park for birthdays, quinceneras, and dodger tailgates. The cowboys and cowgirls of our canyon towns, The hikers we meet on trails to share how beautiful the views are once we get to the top. The endless mentors I’ve had in the fashion industry that have given their time, pride month in West Hollywood creating the most beautiful parades for the LGBTQ community, the Compton Cowboys, the people selling their produce at the farmers markets who come from farms all over California, the endless restaurant owners from all over the world that show us their culinary specialties, the hippies of Topanga canyon, the surfers in Malibu, the thousands of people marching for Black Lives Matter and women’s rights, the dancers and their movement, all the friends that I have made from so many different parts of the world….to me that is so special. Yall are 1/1 and have taught me so much about your culture, traditions, backgrounds, held me when I was grieving and given me so much space to grow. The musicians and artists that come from all over to record and create. WOW…I can’t tell you what a fucking honor it’s been to work beside some of you or even just watch you perform on a stage.You have inspired me and made my dreams come true. Dreams that have surpassed my wildest imaginations as a little girl. My god, LA THANK YOU for turning so many of our dreams into reality. You give people chances and opportunities. Sometimes we take the lead and sometimes we play a supporting role. However we can serve a greater mission that super-serves our community, count us in. Grateful to be co-conspirators with @marquisphifer@kingnaj_ and @hillmangrad for their first Hillman Honors, Women on the Rise gathering a few weeks back. Seeds of wisdom were planted and a time was had.
