@dsuperstore @thedivineldn and Vogue Fabrics, as well as the less likely spaces where queer mischief thrives, such as St Paul’s Church, home of

26 FEBRUARY MOLLY HOUSES IN HACKNEY - Hosted by our heritage partners
@ngmeetinghouse
In the 1700s a Molly House was a Queer pub, but it was much more than this as well. It was a community space, a ceremonial space, a space for gender and sexual exploration and play and mischief. A space where Mollies set and made their own language, customs, codes and costumes. A raucous space, yes, but a safe one as well.
1 MARCH QUEER TOUR OF ABNEY PARK 11am
We retrace the steps of AMY WINEHOUSE’S iconic ‘BACK TO BLACK’ VIDEO, find the final resting places of the doyennes of working class east end Music Hall, pick up and cruising tips and some surprising and inspiring new research.
QUEER COMMUNICATION WORKSHOPS 2pm
Get your tongue around ‘Cant’ – the subculture language of the Mollies in the 1700s, will you be bona at picking up a bit of Polari, the saucy queer London dialect from the decades before decriminalisation? Learn the notorious ‘hankie code’ and brush up on your brolly (or parasol) work. Once you learnt the ropes and tropes, can you make your own contemporary words or symbols?
