a spotlight on listening rooms
listening rooms have been getting me through these colder evenings. it’s so special stepping into a room dedicated to sound, hosted by people with so much passion for music and the stories behind it. i thought i’d shed some light and share some notes
– a pakistani roadtrip with haseeb iqbal –
haseeb’s sessions feel like you’re being taken elsewhere. hearing the sounds and stories from the trip felt like sitting in the backseat - pure passion and magical storytelling. 2.5 hours that felt like 10 mins, could’ve easily done another
(
@haseebiqbal_ ‘s residency at 180 resumes next year but his party
@studiocrumb has an insane lineup of dances next week, not to miss !)
– a conversation with osunlade –
a beautiful deep dive into the producer
@yorubasoulofficial ’s life and the moments that shaped his sound. two quotes that stuck: “music is what you feel” and “unlearn everything”. a reminder that the most visionary work comes from shutting out the noise and creating from your lived experience
(
@masonfifth are on an incredible programming run, check them out, all free !! )
– goya gumbani at shai space –
this evening was sweeeet. cozy lighting, tea, cushions and
@goya.gumbani playing the most beautiful selections. it summed up why i love these spaces: the music discovery ! too many gems, shazam was workinggg
(
@shai.space always creates the perfect atmosphere, another space to have on the radar if it’s not already)
– a sound system session with charlie dark & divine kind –
a fascinating history lesson on how run dem sound came to be, but also a masterclass in hosting and how to build community in a single night. i came alone and left with new friends, the perfect evening !
(follow
@divinekind.sounds for future sessions and don’t miss
@daddydarkrdc ’s next sound system party at the orange room 14/12)
– echoes of our memory –
this one felt like a meditation. a deeply layered listening experience exploring the sounds and stories of those often forgotten. the smallest sounds felt so alive. made me realise how many sounds i ignore day to day
(check out
@houseofdread_ ’s upcoming symposium “Thinking Wid Silence” at the
@icalondon on 2/12)
