August last year I rode through the @OldGhostRoad trail with Zack @pebblespaddles and @morgsmtb - such a sick trip. To give you some background to the artwork that I did for the youtube video and the @groundeffectclothing blog story. In this AI-driven era, thumbnails can be produced in a matter of clicks. I was keen to use pen & ink, pencils and watercolour to create the artwork for the video edit and story
What I had in mind was an illustration of the view from the Ghost Lake Hut looking out over mist-filled valleys of the Kahurangi National Park.
When sketching and working up an idea on paper it's a slow process - there's no hitting backspace or undo to reverse a few hours' work if something doesn't turn out right. I had to commit to the process! Once I'd done the view of the mountains I realised it wasn't going to be enough on it’s own, the YouTube thumbnail needed a title so I sketched and cutout a sign I could move around to get in the right position above the mountain view. - a nod to the signage on the Old Ghost Road trail. I really enjoyed the process of piecing together this artwork and exploring watercolour techniques to express the mist sitting in the valleys.

Next Sunday we have Craigieburn trails dig day. My plan is to mostly work on hogsback and drac flat near Texas flat and forest lodge, with a few other jobs at top of Cockayne alley and possibly edge, luge if a million people turn up.. meet at village at 9. If you have a trailer to load some scree on to that will help, I think we’ll need at least 4.. as well as shovels e-bikes old backpacks etc. I’ll probably go up and stay @forestlodgeadventures Saturday night and make a start on the fine beverages supplied by @b.effectbrewing
Robin Pieper and Will Keay ditched the NZ winter for 3 weeks roadtripping around BC, Canada - on the hunt for great trails, big landscapes, lakeside camping and small town hospitality. They scored a few days in and around the Chilcotin/Cariboo region, ticking off some bucket list goals and discovering some local gems along the way. Link to story & pics in Bio.
Our new predator traps are almost ready to be put out on the Pikikirunga Trail. Thanks to Ground Effect for supporting the club for the cost of the traps and bait for one year. It’s been a while since there has been any predator control in the Takaka Hill Scenic Reserve and the GBMTBC is happy to contribute to eradicating some of them and making the habitat safer for our native birds.

BADJELLY gets a makeover! 🚴
Due to the heavy rain event, many of our tracks took a real hit, with some being taken out completely!
What was once a small stream close to Shady Hub, is now a wide channel, where the debris charged through with full force! 💥
Thankfully, we’re repairing our bridges and rebuilding even stronger! 💪
Thanks to @groundeffectclothing who generously donated $2,000 from their slush fund to sponsor the rebuild of the bridge, we’re back in action! 🫶🏻
