We're proud to announce that Chloë Phelps and her female led practice @grounded_practice will be joining us at BPTW. After a year of collaborating on a number of bids and projects that have worked really well, Chloë will join our leadership team as a Director and continue to oversee the work of Grounded.

BPTW Partner Neill Campbell said: ‘The skills and experience Grounded and Phelps bring in retrofit, engagement and design review, along with Chloë’s client side and planning experience, will further strengthen our teams. The more creativity we have in the business, the better and more productive we can be.’
Thanks to Architects’ Journal Richard Waite for the write up & @yianniskatsaris for the photos!

Great to see so many fab #housing schemes inside the @weareaa4ah & @architectsjournal special edition #GoodHomesforAll designed to be a manual for all people involved in commissioning housing to demonstrate the value of good design.
We're proud that our Trellis Mews has been featured and it's been great to revisit the scheme and chat to residents.

We are excited to be part of the group Architects' Action for Affordable Housing and to launch "5 Affordable Housing Priorities for an Incoming Government," in collaboration with The @architectsjournal
Our mission: to address the urgent need for affordable housing with specific, actionable priorities for policymakers. Now is the moment to act to raise affordable housing up the political agenda and effect meaningful change. Our industry must find better ways to provide the affordable homes society deserves.
As architects, we have a unique role to play in improving housing through design, planning, and advocacy. We have come together to demand that the next government do better. We believe that achieving positive change will require a collective effort, and we need your support.

A restful moment in the back gardens of #TrellisMews we worked hard to be able to retain the trees right along one boundary.
The rear of the building has an S shaped pink brick motif imitating the front.
#Brickdetailing was afforded in a few key areas - on small sites these small gestures make a big difference but don't hurt the budget too much.

#Trellis Mews makes the most of a backland site.
The front elevation has pink @crest_building_products #rossado brick that reference the flank brick walls of the mid century houses that sit at the street edge.
The trellises that enclose the balconies emulate the fretwork of the surrounding #edwardian #villas

Introducing Trellis Mews, the last of the #smallsites schemes from #Croydon. Now featured in the @architectsjournal
12 new homes On a former #garagesite in #southnorwood
An exercise in lean design (94% net : gross) to be generous in the places it matters.
Corridors have been eliminated to enter their flats over the generously sized balconies.

Designed with lots of colleagues and collaborators over the years. But special mention goes to @thisisalexb

Last summer (hurry up this summer!) we collaborated with @paperfilmsmanc to create a short film to revisit some of our #smallsites #housing projects in #Croydon. First up Pump House and some spectacular views across the metropolitan centre.

This #EarthDay we thought we would do a throw back to an @archiboolive pitch we did on the ‘workplace of the future’ for @generalprojects …
Staggeringly, ONE THIRD of an office buildings greenhouse gas emissions are due to fit-outs which, on average, take place EVERY 8 YEARS!
We proposed an ANTI-FAD and ANTI-FITOUT approach to office design, whereby material re-use is prioritized and replacement is focused on natural, and renewable, materials.
A community workshop at the heart of the building creates a space for local schools, makers and growers to create a material resource using waste material from local construction sites; recycling and re-manufacturing where tenants desire.
The building becomes a patchwork quilt of the local community!

We are members of the Association for Environment Conscious Building (AECB); a network which brings together builders, architects, designers, manufacturers and clients to develop, share and promote best practice in environmentally sustainable building. They offer a wide range of resources including webinars and training for staff - our @happybethday is currently undertaking the CarbonLite Retrofit Foundation Course.
We look forward to continuing to upskill and improve our knowledge in sustainable building, while sharing our own projects and experience with the wider sector!
