230 native trees were planted yesterday across four locations in Tracton, County Cork. We planted into ditches, rolling fields and in oak groups along steep inclines. Volunteers from
@revolution_digitalagency joined with ourselves (Green Spaces for Health) and from
@networkcorkirl in a collaborative effort inspired and organised by
@tracton_biodiversity_group .
The planting team were made up of Russian, Ukrainian, Moldovian, Polish, German and Irish.
Some of the trees came from primary schools across Cork City that are part of the duneman project where children plant local acorns in a purpose built box to protect the seed from birds and mice. Two to three years later the trees are ready to plant out. About 80 of the trees came from our oak tree nursery at Páirc Eoin (a big thank you to volunteers at Páirc Eoin who dug out the saplings) and some trees came from
@treespleasecork
Truly when we all come together; farmers, biodiversity groups, volunteers, businesses and children; great things can happen.
A big thank you to Helen O'Dowd, Rodney Daunt and Mary Cunningham of Tracton Biodiversity Group, to local farmers Robert, Tom and Barry Good to Ann and Michael Desmond and Dan Cronin. To all the volunteers including Matt Sroka of Revolution and to the 15 primary schools who provide 100s of native oak and hazel every year., not forgetting
@toghercommunitygarden for potting some of the trees
This is part of our tree planting efforts this year, already we planted 2 orchards in Ballincollig and shortly we will be planting a native hedgerow in Ballincollig.
