“View of the Development” (2016–2020), pastel charcoal, 24” x 18”, is a layered “painting” by Noa Bornstein. Made over four years from her bedroom window at approximately the same early morning time, with multiple seasons compressed into the work. Noa used her grandparents’ binoculars seen on the windowsill. The 40 ft towers went up faster than her drawing, and the development eventually obscured the Freedom Tower. … Noa Bornstein is a Brooklyn–based painter and sculptor whose work explores the tension between human intelligence, compassion, and conflict. Born in San Rafael, California, and raised in Los Angeles, she earned her B.A. in Art from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her early murals include Magritte in Los Angeles and Striving Together for the Harlem Rehabilitation Center. … “View of the Development” is available for purchase via our website ankydyn.com

It’s so hard to talk about my drawings. Showing these drawings for the first time makes me feel so vulnerable and nervous (but excited too!), they are pieces of me in a different way that the paintings are. Other artists know what I’m talking about I’m sure (there’s a great quote from Guston about drawing that’s popped up here and there), but the directness of drawing, the smallest, almost infinitesimal gap between mediation, material, meditation, channel, conduit, and feeling, thought, intuition, makes it so much more closer to something diaristic, or just the etchings inside my head. I think about everything when I draw. The whole world. Everything. Pain and joy and everything in between. I suppose I feel the same way when I paint, but it’s different. I mostly stand when I paint, I always sit when I draw. The drawings feel particularly harder to part with than the paintings. Maybe because they are the size that they are, closer to head and hand? They are made on my lap, cradled by my body. The pen and ink acts as a poultice, the hatched mark-making like the clattering of a typewriter. I think my drawings are a book. Ok, slowing down my pontifications, but if you can, please visit with my drawings. Thank you. ✒️✒️✒️ The Bridge (2/26/22 - 3/5/22), 2022 Ink on paper 10 x 7 inches 12 x 9 inches, framed @greenpointframes “Nesting in Deep Time” @jackbarrettgallery @raymieiadevaia #raymieiadevaia #nestingindeeptime #jackbarrettgallery #drawing #pen #ink #dailydrawing #dailypractice #observationaldrawing #memorydrawing #stilllife #landscape #cats #kawecoliliput #whatisee #drawingland #perceptualdrawing #noodlersheartofdarkness #nature #losangeles #clouds #flowers #newyork #tribeca #losangelestonewyork #LAtoNY #birds #autumninnewyork #plants #bridges
