🌌Emerging Artist Spotlight🔦: TARIKU SHIFERAW @abstractexit 🌌We’re thrilled to highlight the incredible ceramics of Tariku Shiferaw that were on view at Galerie Lelong & Co @galerielelong in fall of 2023 for Shiferaw’s solo exhibition, “Marking Oneself in Dark Places.” Shiferaw’s piece, “A Sign in Space” (2023) transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary with a stunning night sky painted across panels of unstretched canvas, surrounding 24 ceramic sculptures. Each sculpture emanates a “sonic constellation” of sounds, representing the rich and diverse heritage of the African diaspora. 🎶✨ This installation is part of Shiferaw’s “Mata Semay” series and continues their exploration of cosmic themes, following the success of “A Strange Place to Cast Our Dreams” (2022) at Smack Mellon @smackmellon , Brooklyn. Drawing inspiration from Italo Calvino’s “Cosmicomics,” the piece speaks to the universal desire to leave a mark—just as the primordial being attempts in Calvino’s story “A Sign in Space.” 🌠
Swipe through to see this inspiring work, and stay tuned as we continue to celebrate emerging artists pushing boundaries in contemporary ceramics.

Meet Session 3 artist in residence @abstractexit at our Open House happening tomorrow, Thursday April 23rd 💙
Tariku Shiferaw is an Ethiopian-American artist known for his abstract paintings that explore language, repetition, and identity. His work often features layered text and gestural marks, drawing from both personal experience and broader cultural references, including hip-hop and Black visual culture. Shiferaw’s paintings challenge viewers to consider how meaning is constructed and obscured through repetition and fragmentation.
Meet Tariku and see his work in person this Thursday from 7-8:30pm with a members only hour starting at 6pm. Enjoy drinks from @estrelladamm , @lalospirits and @theelcarajo . RSVP at the link in bio ❤️🔥
