Neil Porter recently participated as a keynote speaker in
@arq.futuro ’s third edition of the Novas Centralidades (New Urban Centralities) debate, held in the cities of Campinas and São Paulo, Brazil. The event focused on urban parks and discussed the role of these spaces in the future of cities.
@neilporter58 shared his insights on parks and public spaces as places where democracy thrives and climate crisis solutions come to light. He brought an international perspective of landscape architecture to the discussion of the current realities of urban parks in Brazil. Some of the key projects he used to address the event’s themes were Westergasfabriek Park, Amsterdam, a depolluted former industrial complex where cultural events can take place in a park setting; Parque Central, Valencia, which reconnects neighbourhoods with gardens and cultural areas; and Taikoo Place, Hong Kong, where a high-quality urban garden becomes the focus for biodiversity.
After his presentation, he participated in the “Landscape, Architecture and Infrastructure” debate panel, with
@carolinabaracat.pmc , Secretary of Urbanism at Campinas;
@samuellloyd.oficial , Commercial Director of
@urbiaparques ; Juan Ignacio Díaz, Executive Director of the
@miparque ; and moderated by
@policeneto from
@insperedu and Maria Rita Amoroso from
@fauusp / Lab Campinas.
