Gonemage ‘Coldest Keep in Bitter Heavens’ out this Friday on Fiadh Productions. Wrote this new album in the span of 3 weeks last Oct to November. Kinda switched things around and saved some tracks for an upcoming split and then wrote 2 new songs in Dec/Jan for this album.

Was asked about this split recently. Digitally, I don’t believe it was ever put on streaming but we did put our side on Bandcamp. If you wanna hear it, check it there. May have to Soulseek the full split though. Extremely creative 4-way with the honor of being on @handmadebirdsrecords Some tapes can be found on discogs. Our side (Cara Neir) was a fusion of influences of Enslaved, His Hero is Gone, Envy, Darkthrone, Daïtro. Especially during this time when it was written in 2012 right along the same time we were writing Portals to a Better, Dead World. I was not working yet so I was just writing a lot of music for this project. Probably some of my favorite drum programming I’ve ever done is on our side of this split.

Posted on Twitter but I’ve been gradually putting together my favorite 100 brutal dm albums. Most of it is 90s-00s but there’s some modern stuff in there. If I were to rate everything here on a scale of 1-5, it would all be 4.0-5.0, maybe some near 3.5 (very good). If I extended the list up to 150+ those would all be around 3.5 as well, like some obvious classics in Internal Bleeding, Rotting, Dehumanized, Scattered Remnants that missed my cut here. Tough to make cuts. Just a ridiculously deep subgenre of death metal overall, and in my opinion, the best style. Anyway, dig into some gems if you haven’t heard some of these. Just about every corner of the bdm umbrella that I enjoy. If I were to recommend just a few of the more obscure cuts from here: Exuviate -between Erosion of Sanity and Obscura and blend it with late 90s bdm chugs and Human Remains. Unhinged vox 🌪️ Bane -early Cryptopsy style but thicker and more off-the-rails Cephalic (not CC, whom I love, but totally different band) -melodic brutal dm à la Broken Torso, but more blasting #brutaldeathmetal

Like most of my projects, this one started on a whim. It’s a different and atmospheric take on goregrind, focusing on surreal body horror and metaphysical themes. Musically, more dissonant and semi-melancholic than usual goregrind to go with the vision of being inspired by 90s survival horror games and old point and click PC games.
