Y’all ever stand in front of the most beautiful NYC sunset you ever saw with your best bros? Can’t recommend it enough. Also can’t wait to watch @alfie23 get married tomorrow!!! 🌆🤘
Had a blast watching Death Angel rip through ‘Act III’ — a weirder and more wide-ranging album than you likely remember — with support from Vio-Lence and Incite.
When I came to Seattle for Northwest Terror Fest, I expected to see a million sick bands play, do some fun interviews for my radio show, and explore a beautiful city. That all happened; none of it surprised me. What did surprise me was the deep love and support I felt everywhere I went. A truly humbling number of you have actually read and listened to my work, or seemed genuinely curious about it, and you made me feel more validated than I probably ever have as a “music journalist.” As a human being, too, tbh. Whether we talked for hours over the course of the week or for 30 seconds in the stairwell between Neumos and Barboza, thank you, truly. Y’all got me being mushy on main. Let’s do it again next year?
Stay tuned for my next @bandcamp Metal Show on 5/22. I did some really good interviews with @nwterrorfest , @kylesa_band , @serpentriderofficial , and @dungeonserpent.official that I can’t wait to share. Until then, stay heavy. 🤘
NWTF Day 3: Pig Destroyer, Black Breath, Heiress, Innumerable Forms, Jordan Day, Barren Path, Hedonist. I’m completely devastated that there’s not a Day 4. I’m also the most tired I’ve ever been. 🤷
NWTF Day 2: Worm, Wayfarer, Lana Del Rabies, Primeval Well, Serpent Rider, Dungeon Serpent, and my view of Oranssi Pazuzu’s drummer from the fully packed out balcony because I stepped out for a hot dog at the wrong damn time.
Northwest Terror Fest Night 1: Kylesa, Pan-Amerikan Native Front, Cretin, Nightmarer, Hell, Oryx, Horse Butcher. Not gonna burn any brilliant thoughts on these captions, btw. Listen to my radio show Friday after next and read the next issue of Decibel. You’ll be sick of me talking NWTF before you know it.
Well that was a lovely evening of droney ambient pedal steel and solo acoustic guitar from Luke Schneider and Matthew Rolin. Didn’t even know this coffee shop was here, let alone that they put on cool shows! Columbus harbors some secrets yet.
Former speedboat factory employee Jeffrey Martin played a beautiful folk gig in Columbus tonight, with support from Niall Connelly. Grateful to hear “Red Station Wagon” live again. That one always just about breaks me.
Drove up to Oberlin to see Lea Bertucci perform her stunning new piece ‘The Days Pass Quickly Immersed in the Shadow of Eternity’ with Norbert Rodenkirchen, the legendary flutist for whom she composed it. Really special show in a beautiful space.
