In Universal thoughts: Least Common Multiple, Georg Petermichl turns his attention to mass tourism as a shared cultural practice. His photographs capture crowded destinations where movements and behaviors appear almost choreographed—shaped by repetition, expectation and collective desire.
Rather than judging these scenes, Petermichl focuses on close observation: how do such rituals emerge, and how does the individual position itself within them? Between density and anonymity, his images trace the tension between belonging and distinction, revealing tourism as a space where collective patterns and personal experience continuously intersect.

In Universal thoughts: Least Common Multiple, @georg_pm expands his photographic practice into the realm of ceramics. Central to these works is the motif of the key, an object that quietly structures artistic mobility by granting access to temporary studios, residencies and workplaces. 🏺

Pressed into the surface of the ceramic vessels, key imprints become biographical traces. They mark movements, stays and transitions, while pointing to the uneven distribution of access and the political conditions tied to it. Referencing historical vessel forms, the works oscillate between function and display: once everyday objects, they now appear as carriers of memory, use and restriction.

👏🏼 Congratulations to @georg_pm on winning the award for Best Innovative Film / Experimental or Animated Film at the @diagonale_at in Graz. 🏆
📽 The museum version of “Amature Enlightenment" is currently on view in his solo exhibition Universal thoughts: Least Common Multiple at the Francisco Carolinum.
In the film, Petermichl turns to his own family: during walks in the forest, conversations with his parents unfold around seemingly simple yet fundamental questions about life. The jury highlighted the work’s ambivalence—shifting between intimacy and distance, empathy and unease—positioning it as a compelling exploration of personal experience translated into cinematic form.
Another heart felt appreciation post: thank you so much to all the people that helped me realize “amature enlightenment” 2026 : my parents: Gertraud Petermichl and Dieter Petermichl, #davidrabeder @zartbitter2000 von @theravenfilms , @caro_noe@martinsulzbacher , #heimo @mariahuberpod , and the @diagonale_at for including us in the innovative cinema program !
With “Universal thoughts: Least common multiple”, @georg_pm reflects on photography as a social and psychological medium. The works begin within his personal environment—family and friends—and extend outward to larger contexts such as mass tourism, collective desires, and shared cultural practices.

With “Universal thoughts: Least common multiple”, @georg_pm reflects on photography as a social and psychological medium. The works begin within his personal environment—family and friends—and extend outward to larger contexts such as mass tourism, collective desires, and shared cultural practices.
Instead of offering judgments, Petermichl observes closely: How do collective rituals develop? And how does the individual appear within the dynamics of a crowd?
Combining photography, film, objects, and installation, the exhibition creates a parcours that considers photography as part of a network of social relations.

💥 Now open: @georg_pm - Universal thoughts: Least common multiple
In his exhibition “Universal thoughts: Least common multiple”, Petermichl focuses on photography as a social and psychological instrument. Starting from the smallest personal cosmos - his own family and circle of friends - he broadens his view to larger contexts such as mass tourism, collective longings, and shared cultural practices.
He is less interested in moral judgment than in close observation: How do collective rituals arise? When does the individual emerge from the crowd?
Between photography, film, object, and installation, an exhibition parcours unfolds that understands photography as a medium of social relations.
