#NationalLibraryWeek isn't only about reflecting on / celebrating the service public libraries provide but also about what comes next.
Across the country, the next generation of libraries is taking shape. From Orlando to Sacramento, Palm Springs to Jersey City and beyond, Group 4 is working with communities and partners nationwide to plan + design spaces that respond to evolving needs and opportunities...
Flexible, future-ready environments 💪🏽
Spaces for making, learning, and digital exploration. 💻
Indoor and outdoor connections that extend the library experience. 🏞
Welcoming places for dialogue, discovery, and community life. 🗳
These projects reflect a shared belief that libraries are pivotal to the future of public space and civic connection.
We’re excited to see these communities find their joy, purpose, and place in the libraries of tomorrow.

Joy can be found in so many different ways at the library!
We’ve seen it in children’s spaces where imagination takes over. 🚸
In maker labs where ideas become something tangible. 💡
In digital studios, artist spaces, outdoor reading areas, and quiet corners that offer something different to everyone who walks in. 🎙🎨📚
This National Library Week, we’re celebrating the libraries of all scales we’ve had the joy of designing and seeing come to life in communities across the country. These spaces remind us that when libraries are designed to be flexible, inclusive, and community-driven, they create opportunities for people to find joy in ways they may not expect.

The Toledo Library has selected The Collaborative and @g4arch to design a new Detroit Avenue branch in South Toledo, an exciting step forward in our Building for the Future initiative. 📚 This new location will improve access and expand opportunities for learning, connection and community in South Toledo. It will replace the former Toledo Heights Branch and the Heatherdowns Branch (which will remain open until the new location is completed in 2028). Stay tuned for ways to share your input as the design takes shape!
Group 4 is excited to host a session at @cprs_ca Connections '26 alongside our frequent collaborators @wrtdesign and @pros.consulting . Together we’ll explore how California communities can move from vision to implementation—turning plans into projects that are financially, operationally, and socially sustainable.
Using case studies from the Foster City Community Center and the Fairfield Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan, we’ll share practical lessons on aligning planning, design, funding, and operations. Key takeaways will include:
✅Translating master plans into realistic project lists and budgets
✅Evaluating when to reinvest vs. re-envision vs. build new
✅Designing facilities that agencies can successfully operate long term.
Looking forward to a great conversation with parks and recreation leaders about planning with purpose and building projects that truly work for communities. #CPRS #ConnectionsConference

🦺 Team time out of the office and on site at the future Foster City Community Center last week! ⛵️
Seeing the building take shape firsthand gave our staff a chance to walk through upcoming program spaces, imagine future community events in the grand multipurpose rooms, and take in those dramatic lagoon views that will anchor so much of the experience. Site visits like this strengthen our craft, deepen our connection to the work, and remind us why thoughtful civic design matters.
🏗👷🏻♀️A great day on-site with @pcl_construction as progress continues on the reimagined Santa Ana historic Main Library. This transformation will deliver modern, flexible spaces and bold programming innovations while honoring a cherished local landmark.
