ROOTS & RADIANCE 2/19 ✨ Join us this Thursday in honor of Black History Month for Miami’s first private film screening of ✨RAFIKI✨ and our QTPOC social and spiritual mixer. 🧡💚 RAFIKI (2019) is a Kenyan sapphic romance directed by Wanuri Kahiu about two young women falling in love in a country where homosexuality is criminalized, a theme that led to the movie’s temporary ban in Kenya for promoting lesbianism (the ban for the film in Kenya has been recently lifted). The film, whose title means “friend” in Swahili, explores the two protagonists’ tender love story against familial and political pressures, becoming known for its vibrant depiction of queer joy and resistance, despite the sociopolitical challenges often faced by queer folks of color. ❤️🖤 The film screening will begin at 7:30 pm sharp at @dear_eleanor305 followed by a QTPOC social and spiritual mixer. After the film we will reset the energy with a luscious sound bath by spiritual activist and grassroots organizer @lew.is2402 and DJ sets by our sound selectors @for.eseer @emcee.remi @ladynarcissse as well as an open decks for our community! We encourage folks to kiki 💅 dance 💃sing 🎤 skillshare and share resources 🧠 raise and redistribute funds 👥💸 and partake in the power of community while uplifting our black siblings 🧡💚❤️🖤 ✨To integrate our spiritual container, we will be hosting our beloved elder Francis, Yoruban priestess from @botanicatomasafrancis who will be vending homemade and blessed spiritual baths, root candles and soaps, as well as Yoruban artifacts.
