Rob and I have trained together for a while and even though our preferred weapon sets differ (#fightlikeaviking #fightlikeaknight ) we've got to the stage of having a pretty good read on each other, to the extent that rob can predict where my attack cycles are likely to be going and I can (normally) spot when he's about to take my leg out.
This is a 7 second pass toward the end of a 8 or 9 minute bout. If you do any kind of #historicfencing you'll have an idea of the ammount of effort that goes into both attacking and defending in passes like this. If you dont, well, it's a lot.
A big chunk of our fights and after fight chats is around the psychology of how we move, the interactions, the ideas behind certain cuts or attitudes (rob's strolling death march is designed to freak people out a bit and works a lot).
This pass was a great one for us because it's the epitome of how we fight: Rob is waiting for an over extension (I do those a lot) that he can nip into and make a cut, scoring a hit and halting the onslaught. I'm aiming to pile the pressure on until either his brain misfires or his defences crack- which is bloody difficult- and in this pass it works for me.
If you like what you see then come and visit us at @maiden_media_productions #lastkingdom fan event this weekend where @orderoftheblade and some of our friends will be running combat displays and chatting about all things pointy and cutty.

So I don't normally enjoy fighting people who use side swords, let alone @cafeulg who is mobile and more technically proficiant in how he fights than I am.
But every bout can have a moment of greatness and for me, this is it.
The disarm, on rewatching, is a little brutal but between my timing being about right to catch Mike in a transitional grip and then walloping (technical term) his blade at the right point was a such a moment.
If memory serves he then landed a thrust to my face.
So recently I had the pleasure of teaching at the #midlandsmuster
For anyone who doesn't knowno specialise in shields and combat with them.
Great day was had and the most excellent @agentbsmithttv has taken some excellent photos.
For those interested the t-shirt in the first photo is by the excellent @lamortclothing and I cannot reccomwnd them highly enough.
So Mike kindly offered to have an armoured bout against me to help me break in my new gear.
The rules for arnoured bouts are that anything that's got armour can ignore a hit. Or you can have x3 hits to thw head before being "wounded".
This meant Half-Swording.
I've done halfswording once before and it didn't go that qell for me so I was delighted to get these off against Mike who is nimble and much better with this sort of thing than I am!
Absoltuely delightful bout.
My face when checking the email and realizing g that parcelforcr apparently only work Monday to Friday and it'll probably be Tuesday before ei get my new gear.
