Dudù Kouate combines pan-African traditional instruments and rhythms with cutting-edge experimental jazz. Dudù was born in Senegal in 1963 into a family of griots, the conservators of the African cultural and musical tradition. Member since 2017 of the historic Art Ensemble of Chicago, Dudù’s performances are famous for his array of 200+ instruments (many of which are manufactured by Dudù himself from recycled and upcycled materials) with which he journeys to the roots of the sounds of the earth - a journey he names the search for the ‘sound of elements’.
Simon Sieger is a multi-instrumentalist, arranger and composer. His field of activity ranges from barrelhouse boogie to Sun Ra reinterpretations to hard-hitting sweet noise. In his own words, “Music has no boundaries; anything can go anywhere, with the right attitude. That’s the way the world should be.” He has been heard playing stride piano at noise concerts and Turkish maqam in a blues band. Often called a “hunter-gatherer” by his peers, he has recently played with the Art Ensemble of Chicago, the Famoudou Don Moye Odyssey and Legacy Quintet.

On May 24 Flowers Must Die, @ved.sound will join Sons of Viljems at the amazing @folklorehoxton for a second show in this cosy little venue.
This will be an event dedicated to consecrate the first collaboration between FMD and Sons of Viljems.
The Swedish crew has remixed 'Liminal' giving it a spin towards the celestial.

Celebrating a decade of Earthly Measures music and culture by revisiting our radiant roots and the seed that spawned our ever-growing journey.
This August, we gravitate towards our favourite East London spot Folklore, for a transcendental night aboard the otherworldly Earthly Measures vessel.
We’re shining a light on two eloquently eclectic live artists (both debuting in London!) hailing from Chile, Argentina and the USA, respectively.
Playroots is our Chilean brother and soon-to-be Earthly Measures label contributor (upcoming shhh!). Shifting us into ultra-dimensions, his music moves between downtempo, organic house and dub with an elegant emphasis on the delicate-sounding, alien spaceship-looking handpan. It’ll be a pleasure to host him for his first big smoke experience!
For their London debut, the Cuervo Cuervo duo will be in full force, hypnotically blending Latin American rhythms and downtempo electronica. Mixing their musical soundscape with the tropical and mystical vibes of the Folklore den, you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’ve been transported to a spirited selva far, far away ...
... as always, we’ll be aboard ship to guide you through the night with an assortment of tripped-out, globally-infused psychedelia, fuelling your cravings for the amalgamation of mind-melters and body-shakers for which we’re ever-so grateful to be renowned.
