One Battle After Another production designer Florencia Martin discusses building Paul Thomas Anderson’s detailed world: "We found a house that had a basement with a secret door that was their safe room, through a painted mural. We stitched that together with a tunnel in Stockton, which was fantastic because it was this curving, endless feeling... then the diorama was a great discovery—the idea that they need to be looking at something in this basement. We ended up with a depiction of the “perfect American West.” That’s how the taxidermy factors. They are preservationists and conserving America. It was a very fun set to create. There are a few Easter eggs, like the Christmas tea cups and St. Nick in the archway in the keystone." ✨ Such a joy this weekend celebrating our teams in Los Angeles and El Paso who brought @onebattleafteranothermovie to life. ✨ Watching our film together in beautiful Vistavision brought back years of scouting and filming across California and Texas .. piecing together real stories, people, landscapes, and fragments around these magnificently unique characters and script. So much gratitude to our art dept led by Supervising Art Director Andrew Cahn, set dec led by Anthony Carlino, and props teams led by Robbie Duncan and Matthew Cavaliero who traveled far and wide, working hand-in-hand with local experts to bring authenticity and texture to this story. And to our locations team, led by Michael Glaser, and the El Paso community who opened every door, rooftop, and tunnel, we couldn’t have done this without you. Hearing your laughter, suspense & cheers every time your city was on screen was unforgettable. Every frame reminds me of Adam and the adventures we all shared: long drives, late nights, planes, rain, margaritas, dust, more margaritas, mud, & heat. Grateful this film holds those memories and every good battle fought.
