A week ago on Sunday night, my cousin Michael looked up the hill from his house and saw the ridge was on fire. The flames started to head down the hill quickly, aiming directly for the property. He woke up his family then ran thirty yards or so to the main house, the house he grew up in, where his parents were asleep. They had three minutes to get out.
Fortunately, they are all safe. When they went back the next day, their houses and everything they owned were rubble and ash. My cousin, his wife, their two little girls, my aunt and uncle, lost everything. They said it looked like a war zone after bombs had been dropped.
The family has set up a fund to help them start over. Anything at all you can give will be immensely appreciated, and will go directly to food shelter and clothes while they start to rebuild their lives. I’m sure you’ve seen the news, and this is a crisis of epic proportions for the whole area. It’s going to be a long line for FEMA and insurance support, so this fund is to take care of them now.
