My biggest goal as a filmmaker is to make the audience feel something â to inspire them, and maybe even offer a new perspective on life.
When I first approached
@philipphrozek , I was a complete stranger to him. I walked into his home with my camera, met his son and his partner, and stepped into his personal world. As a documentary filmmaker, building a strong relationship with the person whose story youâre telling is essential. Itâs about creating a space where they feel comfortable enough to open up.
Philipp had to put a lot of trust in me, and that trust is what kept me motivated throughout the entire process. From the start, I felt a deep responsibility to do justice to such an emotional, personal story while staying true to Philippâs experience. I wanted to keep my cinematic approach in this documentary but without overdramatizing anything. I wanted the film to reflect the reality of his journey.
Iâll never forget the two hours we spent filming the interview â just the two of us, sitting in the forest, talking, while two cameras, a mic and a light were pointed at him. I faced the challenge of guiding the conversation towards his real emotions without making him feel pressured. When he talked about the accident and relived those difficult times in rehab with his family, it was very emotional for him. But he pushed through, and thatâs exactly the kind of raw emotions I was hoping to capture. It became a truly special moment.
Philipp shared his intimate life story with me, granting access to his deepest emotions, and for that, Iâm so grateful. This film became what it is because he had the courage to open up and talk about the hardest moments in his life.
