So how do you make a font ✨ Rounded ✨? Genuine question, I have no experience.
I’d love to just apply a filter on export to avoid maintaining and syncing multiple files/outlines, thus having a higher quality. Currently experimenting with this little tool to see if it can do the trick.
Then the question is if it’s going to work for a large family like FL Art Grotesk. Let’s see!

By @designofficefun , part 2: A few months ago, we received a proposal from @contemporarytype to create the communication for the launch of a new typeface (FL Rare), so we decided to develop a complete identity to showcase the typeface in use. We reached out to @serigrafialosgatos to explain the concept and, after months of collaboration and screen-printing absolutely every object in their workshop with this new typeface, they even turned their van into a typographic specimen and business card. We couldn’t have chosen a better victim to turn FL Rare font into a tangible reality across multiple formats.
The different weights of the typeface connected perfectly with the screen printing technique, the use of more or less ink and the resulting texture, from the lightest weight (FL Rare Display Fine) to the boldest (FL Rare Display Black), passing through all the intermediate ones. That’s why we reached out to Serigrafia Los Gatos to share this idea of an identity-specimen.
Thanks to the entire team who made it possible, to @mariotom4to for the photos, to @serigrafialosgatos for their collaboration and passion, to @contemporarytype@flightmodetype for their trust.

Introducing FL Prefere — an edgy serif by @flightmodetype 🦇 part 4
The conflict between brutal geometric limitations and the natural flow of the pen, the basis of serif typefaces, is the heart of FL Prefere. That dissonance of the opposites is even more prominent in italics, which were especially fun to design.

Introducing FL Prefere — an edgy serif by @flightmodetype 🐦⬛ part 3
The name Prefere comes from the extensive process of combining letters which align along the line. The rule number one is known: the typeface’s name must look good when set in itself. It is pronounced halfway between the English “prefer” and French “préférée”, with some doubt in the voice. Prefere was fun to design and I hope you’ll have fun using it.

Introducing FL Prefere — an edgy serif by @flightmodetype 🦇 part 2
FL Prefere is an display serif typeface that questions the familiarity of letterforms and pushes their perception out of the comfort zone. It takes its deep historical roots in day 22 of running out of ideas in a challenge to make a quick font every day, back in 2021. “Hold the line” seemed silly enough. Forcing elements to align along an imaginary horizontal resulted in flat counters, brutal geometry and some blind letters. Edgy! Fast forward to 2025, it is now a complete type family, ready to raise some eyebrows.
