Te Tuhi gallery has officially reopened this week following an extensive renovation. After the 50-year-old building suffered significant flood damage last June, we took the opportunity to revitalise the space by drawing on the essence of the original 1975 design to bring warmth and cohesion to the interior.
The new spatial planning provides additional display areas for art and improves connectivity between spaces. We have also enhanced the back-of-house functionality for staff, including updated kitchen and toilet facilities.
We collaborated with local artisans to add unique details throughout. Made By Saul created countertops, using oak felled just 20 meters from the building, rooting the building to the land. While screens by Finework add a sense of intrigue. A polished concrete floor completes the new palette.
With limited design time and a very tight budget the team is thrilled with the refurbishment.
The first exhibition opens on 28 February, and we look forward to seeing the building full of life and art once again.

Always a pleasure working with this dream team!
Scaffolding was being dropped today which reveals the screen and facade shape - looks crisp.
Am enjoying the yellow glow from the upstairs floor in image #4 too.
@crossonarchitects@zebuildnz@fineworkmodel
Today the screen went onto The Paper House which is another milestone as we work towards practical completion.
This screen is a fundamental move for the facade and we can’t wait to see the scaffold dropped and the entire sculptural form revealed.
@crossonarchitects@fineworkmodel@zebuildnz
One of the key moves with the Paper House is the facade screen which sits in front of the north facing clerestory windows.
Here is CNC machine work completed by the master Minka at @fineworkmodel . These panels and the frame will be picked up by @elevateroofingltd on Tuesday to be powdercoated Titania to match the cladding.
@crossonarchitects specified this facade must be corrugated and many calls were made to suppliers who usually work in this space.
However - sometimes the answer is closer to home. @jasmax partner with Finework often to create building models or bespoke Wayfinding and integrated art installations. If you need something done that no one thought could be - then Fineworks always find a way.
Thanks Minka.
A mix of city energy and coastal calm, Cradle Cove is a bold delivery for a client who embraces a different approach.

Fantastic to see four @jasmax Brand Design projects featured in this year’s @bestdesignawards within three categories.
Entries include the second instalment of Lamont & Co’s FABRIC development in Onehunga; a beautiful painting commissioned from Karl Maughan within a curated suite of collateral for The Domain Collection; exquisite cast ‘paint rocks’ for Subaru of New Zealand’s showrooms and sculptural wayfinding for 8 Willis Street.
As we continue to build our track record after almost 5 years in business, programmes like Best Awards offer us a chance to see where we’ve been and where we might go.
Thanks to all our clients and collaborators:

Ace, C
It was four years ago that Nick Moyes and I co-founded the Brand Design offering at Jasmax. Since then the team has grown from me, myself and I, down the back beside the printers in the basement of Jasmax’s Auckland studio, to a team of seven talented, intelligent, curious and empathetic designers. Aaron Troy, Sophia Cameron, Mimi Seagar, Holly Zeng, Jarrad Caine and Flora Cheng.
Last Friday night we gathered together outside, appropriately socially distanced to watch a livestream of the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) Awards. Apart from the fact that it was so good to see everyone in three dimensions, our projects were recognised with three ‘Distinctions’, which recognise work of an exceptional standard!
The Te Āhuru Supergraphics System for AUT designed in association with MuirMcNeil received two of those for Spatial; Environmental Graphics and Craft; Typography for Design categories. It was also awarded a Judges Choice.
Our property brand for The Electric apartments in Kingsland beautifully authored by Aaron Troy received Distinction for Physical Brand Expression.
Merits were awarded to : Te Tatau Kaitiaki by Graham Tipene for Permanent Installations (one of the most richly rewarding projects I've been involved in), and Te Hau-Ora for 3D/Sculptures.
Newly launched global outdoor brand based in Boulder Colorado, ARTILECT® and Supergraphics for Durham Lane in Tauranga were also recognised as finalists.
So proud of this achievement. It shows we are creating work that paraphrasing AGDA juror Anya Karitiana; "seamlessly integrates into the structural fabric of its environment." Congratulations to everyone involved at Jasmax alongside our clients and project collaborators.
