Toronto’s Waterfront Design Review Panel has voted in support of the Bentway Islands — a bold new chapter for The Bentway in Toronto. The Bentway Islands will transform 125,000 square feet beneath the Gardiner Expressway into a new destination for year-round recreation, play, and cultural programming. The project builds on the Bentway’s Phase 1 vivid graphics, material and color palette, while incorporating new approaches to deliver performative landscapes that filter stormwater, create more comfortable microclimates, and root the experience in native Southern Ontario plantings and Indigenous botanical knowledge. The Bentway Islands is a design collaboration between Field Operations and Brook McIlroy.

Field Operations has received two AIANY + ASLANY Transportation and Infrastructure Design Excellence Awards, a biannual program recognizing exceptional infrastructure design across the United States. Together, Presidio Tunnel Tops and Seattle’s Waterfront Park demonstrate how highway infrastructure can be transformed into vital public space — in San Francisco, reclaiming 14 acres above tunneled parkway lanes to reconnect historic parklands, and in Seattle, restoring the city’s relationship with Elliott Bay for the first time since 1949. Waterfront Park received the Open Space: Honor Award, and Presidio Tunnel Tops was recognized with the Open Space: Merit Award. Learn more about these transformative projects at the link in bio. Field Operations is leading landscape architecture for the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art's landmark expansion, transforming its current 15-acre campus into a 325-acre public preserve and garden. The design features an expansive trail network connecting two museum buildings through the landscapes of the Brandywine Valley, including wetland boardwalks, native meadow trails, restored stands of forest, and stormwater collection ponds. In concourse with a new museum building by Kengo Kuma & Associates, the expanded campus becomes a learning landscape that strengthens visitors' connection to the land and the mission of the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art. Construction is planned to begin Spring 2027, with the new museum building opening Fall 2029. The Class of 1986 Fitness & Wellness Center, designed by DIGSAU (@digsau_architecture ) and MJMA (@mjma.ca ), transforms the 1947 Dillon Gym on the western edge of Princeton University’s historic campus into a contemporary recreation and wellness hub. Field Operations collaborated with the team as the campus landscape architect, designing a new courtyard entrance on Elm Drive, athletic courts, and a green roof atop the expansion. The new landscape is integrated and holistically connected to the wellness center, as well as the surrounding campus context. @skanskausa @lera_engineers @vanderweil_engineers @langanengenv @nitscheng @jensen_hughes @transsolar_klimaengineering @thorntontomasetti @tlp_inc @shenmilsomwilke @mcohenandsons @rampartfacadesystems Photography by Scott Norsworthy (@norsworthyscott ).

The 2026 Monocle Design Awards have named Seattle’s Waterfront Park “Best in Urbanism.” In the May 2026 issue, the Monocle team meets with Field Operations founding partner James Corner to explore how the firm transformed Seattle’s former Alaskan Way Viaduct into one of the most celebrated new public spaces in the US. Two transformative projects just opened in Downtown Pittsburgh: Arts Landing and Market Square. With both projects complete just in time for the NFL Draft, their openings mark a major milestone in the collective effort of public and private partners to revitalize Downtown Pittsburgh. Suspended above the Allegheny River, Arts Landing transforms a vacant lot into a vibrant community asset for festivals, performances, public art, and everyday recreation. Nearby, Market Square is entering its next chapter, reimagined as a more accessible, pedestrian-friendly space. At its heart, a glass-canopied structure called “The Anchor” will serve as a dynamic new focal point.

This Earth Day, we honor the humble Honey Bee, probably one of the most important species on the planet for the food security for people around the world, biodiversity, and ecological health. More than one-third of the world’s food supply is dependent on the pollination of crops and habitat. Unfortunately, bees and other pollinators such as butterflies, bats, and hummingbirds are increasingly under threat from pesticides, habitat loss, and pollution. Building new landscapes that are not only useful and beautiful, but that also provide rich habitat for pollinators is critical for human health and wellbeing. Besides, who doesn’t love honey!

We’re embarking on an effort to create one of Atlanta’s most compelling free destinations: an experience that draws people in and makes them want to stay. The working title? Midtown Green. This is a rare opportunity to shape one of the city’s next great civic landmarks. Not just a place you pass through, but one you go out of your way to be in. A cultural destination without walls: alive with energy, creativity and everyday moments. A place where something is always happening, where the city comes alive -- and no two visits feel the same. We're not aware of any other improvement district in the region that has taken on an effort like this to acquire land and build a premier cultural attraction that is for everyone. Forever. Project costs and timeline are still being developed. Midtown Alliance will advance final design, engineering, and cost planning while preparing to launch a capital campaign. Meanwhile, temporary site improvements are happening out at 98 14th Street to grade and level the landm and make it usable this summer for community events. But we know this big, long-term idea can't happen without people who *believe* Atlanta should have a place like this. If that's you, then you’re exactly who we need to help make it happen. Meet us at Midtown Green. See more at the link in our bio. @fieldoperations @gresham_smith @thomasphiferandpartners @fluidity_design_consultants @thresholdacoustics @historianinheelsofficial @dvdl.co
