Another animal collab! Tried a different framing composition this time. Indifferent about the results lol Huntsman Spiders (Heteropoda venatoria) are a common species in tropical and sub-tropical habitats. As the largest ground spider in Taiwan, it boasts incredible speed to capture prey and to escape predators such as spider wasps. Instead of spinning webs, Huntsman spiders use venom to incapacitate prey, and female Huntsman Spiders use their silk to spin egg sacs to keep eggs underneath their sternum. Though they may look frightening, they are gentle creatures that target pests like cockroaches, flies and mosquitoes. Mb for not posting anything for a month. Fish-Bruary really had me burnt out. But I'm back, and a little late for this month's collab! This month's theme was " Unloved/Misunderstood Creatures." The obvious choice for me was sharks, but I feel like their reputations have been getting better in the last few years. So, I went with another carnivorous fish who were demonized for decades, PIRANHAS! They have been portrayed as vicious, man-eating pack hunters who can strip carcasses clean in minutes. On the contrary, they are rather shy fish who live in schools for protection against predators. Piranhas are also omnivorous, feeding on fruit, leaves, carrion, fish and invertebrates. I absolutely love the topic we chose for this month! 🩵🪼 The little animal monthly collab group I’m in decided to draw unloved critters this month to shine a little light on some of the critters that don’t get as much love. I chose the jellyfish! Jelly’s unfortunately have a bit of a bad reputation due to their stinging cells called nematocysts. I have definitely had my fair share of painful stings, BUT, the are still such cool sea creatures! Jelly fish have no brain, no skeleton, no stomach, and yet the play a very big role in the healthy of our oceans! They are a(n): 🪼Ecosystem Balancer: Jellyfish are predators of zooplankton and smaller jellyfish, helping control populations and help with the balance of various ecosystems. 🪼Fish Nursery Habitat: The stinging tentacles provide protection for juvenile fish from predators, assisting with the survival of many fish species. 🪼Food Source: Jellyfish are a crucial part of the diet for several species, especially sea turtles, whale sharks, and also fish like sunfish and spadefish. 🪼Nutrient Cycling & Carbon Transfer: They move nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus from the sea floor to the surface and contribute to the “biological pump” that moves carbon to the deep ocean. 🪼Human Utility: Jellyfish have very energy-efficient movement, which has inspired engineering, and they are used in medical research, particularly due to their fluorescent proteins. 🪼Ecological Indicators: Changes in their populations can indicate changes in the ocean’s health, such as those caused by climate change or pollution. So yes jelly fish are awesome and the definitely deserve some love! As well as all these other animals drawn by many other amazing artists! Here are the artist and their pieces in order: @bluetide_project - jellyfish @beanables - mosquito @stormer65013 - huntsman spider @felipithecus - star-nosed mole @ramen_meow_art - skunk @velociraptor.doodles - pigeons @urielpeguerra - piranha (not included) . . . #jellyfish #animals #artists #oceanconservation #oceanlover

Monthly animal collab! This time with a creature inspired by my chosen animal, the mosquito 🦟✨ The full scientific name of the specific mosquito I took most inspiration from is Sabethes cyaneus. They have such beautiful iridescence and I was surprised to find that there were mosquitos that looked so purrrdyy 🦋💞 Mosquitos are commonly disliked (fair), but I think that they do have qualities that we can appreciate as well as understanding their role in ecosystems. Mosquitos are actually pollinators, with only the females feeding on blood, which is necessary for their babies. While there is debate about wether ecosystems really need mosquitos, we can always appreciate a pollinated plant 🌱 I’m no fan of being bitten, but I do think these guys can be pretty cool when I take the time to notice what makes them unique :) Theme : Unloved critters @beanables - Mosquito @stormer65013 - Hunstman Spider @felipithecus - star nosed mole @bluetide_project - jelly fish @ramen_meow_art - skunk @velociraptor.doodles - pigeons #mosquito #creaturedesign #cutecreature #moth #mothcreature

My late monthly animal collab post! Featuring the Shingleback Skink 🦎💞 This one was for February, so we went with animals that mate for life as the theme! 💌 I wanted to find an animal that I was surprised to find out they mate for life, and I came across the shingle back skink! I already loved these animals, but didn’t know that they form pair bonds for years on end. Definitely unique for a lizard on top of their head shaped tail that I love :) 🎨Monthly collab artists: @arteimea - Northern Gannets @beanables - Shingleback Skink @avonplinsky - Black Vulture @urielpeguerra - Laysan Albatross @stormer65013 - Mandarin Duck @felipithecus - Dik dik @bouyboyart - Red fox @plushies_and_nerds - California mouse @velociraptor.doodles - Red-crowned crane #shinglebackskink #shinglebacklizard #cutelizards #reptilefan #herpetology

ANIMAL ART COLLAB TIME‼️ Being the month of love, we all decided to draw animals who mate for life. So, I decided to draw the Laysan Albatross, a species whose kin have mastered life on the wing. Like last month's post, I decided to create an infographic based on what I learned about these animals from my Conservation of Seabirds class I took in university. I even had the pleasure of meeting Carl Safina, an ecologist and author who came to talk to the class about his time on Midway Atoll and his experiences with seabirds. We were assigned to read his book, "Eye of the Albatross," and I highly recommend it! It’s time for the next art drop from a super awesome group of artist that I get to do art with every month! Our theme for January was endangered species! And what a perfect time to show you all some of the beautiful animals that are sadly getting negatively impacted by changes in climate as well as other anthropogenic impacts. I chose to shine a bit of light on the Hawaiian monk seal! Not only are they absolutely adorable, they also hold a very special place in my heart. My first ever experience in the mammal research world was with Hawaiian monk seal acoustics and it was such an amazing opportunity that I will never forget. Shout out to @kirbyparnell15 for letting me work with her and the seals! Hawaiian monk seals are an endemic species to the Hawaiian archipelago, meaning they can’t be found anywhere else in the world. As a result they fill a pretty specific ecological niche. Not only does this means that they play a crucial role in their local ecosystems, but also makes them particularly vulnerable to changes in their environment as well as anthropogenic impacts such as water pollution and noise pollution. There are only an estimated 1600 Hawaiian monk seals left in the wild, and they need to be protected! If you would like to help these seals as well as all these animals featured on this post and more, do some of your own research and try to help in anyway you can. You can share educational posts like these, you can donate to organizations that aid in marine/wildlife conservation, or you can even just reduce how much plastic you use. Any little bit helps! Do your part in helping insure these animals don’t disappear in our lifetime. 🩵🩵🩵 Here are the artist behind the drawings in order of appearance: @beanables - Coastal Marten @urielpeguerra - North Atlantic Right Whale @stormer65013 - Indiana Bat and Little Brown Bat @plushies_and_nerds - black footed ferret @avonplinsky - red-cockaded woodpecker @gutloaded.studios - Florida Panther @gattillynx - Canada Lynx @felipithecus - Uakari @velociraptor.doodles - ‘I’iwi bouyboyart - Thresher shark @ramen_meow_art - Kit fox . . . #oceanconservation #artist #marinelife #protecttheocean #protecttheplanet

This month’s animal collab, I decided to create a little piece featuring the Coastal Marten! (Aka Humboldt Marten) These little guys have a few known populations along the California and Oregon coast. They were a treat to learn about because I had lived in Oregon for over 10 years without even knowing these guys lived there too! Theme : Animals that would be threatened by the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act. (Generally animals that depend on the protections the ESA gives them). Many rule changes were proposed, which weaken protections for wildlife to make room for development. One large change is reverting the “blanket rule” which extends protections given to endangered species to threatened ones. The blanket rule is extremely important to vulnerable wildlife because research, documentation, and rule making takes time which is vital to struggling species. Revoking the blanket rule means that individual policies will need to be made for each threatened species, which is a way to limit protections as much as possible. (This is all to the best of my understanding & research, so if you’re interested I definitely encourage you to do some as well! Feel free to let me know if I have anything wrong) I hope you enjoy looking through and learning about all of these super cool species we have in the United States :) @beanables - Coastal Marten @urielpeguerra - North Atlantic Right Whale @stormer65013 - Indiana Bat and Little Brown Bat @bluetide_project - Hawaiian monk seal @plushies_and_nerds - black footed ferret @avonplinsky - red-cockaded woodpecker @gutloaded.studios - Florida Panther @gattillynx - Canada Lynx @felipithecus - Uakari @velociraptor.doodles - ‘I’iwi @bouyboyart - Thresher shark @ramen_meow_art - Kit fox #coastalmarten #pacificmarten #marten #ferret #weasel
