🌺 Fei Gao 🌺 Fei Gao is an artist and producer based on unceded Dharug land. Their practice draws on symbolic elements to shape personas and narratives, moving from fixed identities toward approaches grounded in sensory exploration and movement. Inspired by games, lores, and collective imaginings, Fei’s work reflects on tenderness, transformation, and the shifting dynamics of connection between people and communities. Their interest currently include healing, connection, migration journeys, and community arts and cultural development. Shell/Angel Sharing the birthing of “The Shell – Angel”, presented at @soft_centre last month. Commissioned and produced by @performancespace & @soft_centre Echoing the shifting phases of the moon, the process of making this work was an outlet to explore closeness, unraveling and evolution. From the movement to music to costume, each aspect of this piece was in dialogue with each other. It’s been a process of feeling through, listening, playing and letting it unfold. That the ghosts of us reside and stir within other vessels or interfaces; our realities (re)written, performed, and embodied even though we know it all to be a story. To describe a feeling through giving it a face — to use it as a mask or a shield. What if I’m more real when I’m projecting? 'Ghost in the Machine' brings together Celacious666, Rainer Ciar, Fei Gao and Kalanjay Dhir, whose shared interests in avatars and embodiment were born from fiction and digital cultures. Reliving memories and emotions through roleplay — by creating costume, illustrations and fanwork, the artists manifest alternate personas and characters that give body and form to psychological landscapes. Mediated through degrees of separation, these fantasies are part escapist, part confrontation with being human.
