Meet Rachelle Esaid and San May, the artist facilitators who created roots, a series of creative hangouts for Palestinian youth 🍉 We are excited to present the program they dreamed up as emerging CACD (Community Arts and Cultural Development) practitioners, living on unceded Dharug land with a deep connection to Western Sydney. Rachelle Esaid(@reshellved ) is an artist and arts worker with a Bachelors in Visual Arts from University of Wollongong and a Cert IV in Arts Administration. She has worked in a variety of roles in arts organisations from venue management, gallery assistant to producing programs/events. Their artistic practice focuses on creating joy for her child self whilst acknowledging the difficulties she has with her current self. She expresses this through a variety of mediums, character designs and bright colours on a sullen image. San May(@sndrmy ) is a creative producer, community artist, and professional daydreamer who completed a Bachelors in Creative Arts for Film and Television Production from JMC Academy. Since 2017, they have been working in Western Sydney to deliver creative and artistic programs alongside community. San has experience in art education, event producing, festival design, and stop-motion animation. A strong advocate of human and social rights, San hopes their work inspires others to broadcast diversity in the arts. They will be bringing their passion and skills to the free workshop series, running from March - August on Saturdays. 💌 Expressions of Interest open until 15 March. Link in bio. WHOA A POST 😦 I made this piece around being frustrated by constantly being bombarded by issues that seem to stick and never go away. They build up, are sharp and emotionally draining. I wanted to try a different medium because I would like to work with wood sometime if I ever have a bigger space but thought cardboard was a nice experiment. #artwork

I haven’t made a post in a while and tbf I haven’t made art in a while. I’ve been looking into expanding my art practice just beyond canvas and paper. I love the idea of 3D woodcuts and leaping off the canvas. I’m still working on it but I think I made a nice starting point. I also added some behind the scenes type of stuff as well. Okay bye 👍

Timelapse of how I created the piece. I wish you could see it but I always have a grid overlay in procreate on my screen. Really helpful and I use it to mark where I draw the lines. You can see my test a bunch of brushes, I was trying to find something that would give the idea of a thick paste or paint I guess on top of the subject. Excited to be part of Fisher’s Ghost Art Show at @campbelltownartscentre again. I have two works this year under the name “Can I Sleep?”. They were both made where I was attempting to better myself mentally and dealing with insomnia was just part of that. Not having proper sleep for about 3-6 months on and off was killer so I was glad I found a way to express it through my art. I included some small snippets of the works and some W.I.P shots. I couldn’t find anything physical for the other painting but I did include some digital art where I essentially painted it on procreate which helped me create a better idea of what to expect when I finally painted it. Timelapse of the digital artwork I posted. Always my fave part after I finish a digital piece, I also don’t touch my iPad as much as I should. It’s more of a tool to clean my lines in sketches and use that to transfer to canvases. Some close ups and a little video of the mural. The artwork is supposed to be my interpretation of living with constant obnoxious, agonising, indecisive internal thoughts. I could be enjoying my coffee and all of sudden my thoughts are in two or five different places, my day is ruined because anxiety decided to question ourselves. It’s alot of frustration and anxiety fighting between each other. But I think it’s fun to contrast it with this bubbly, bright and illustrative style.
