"Ghost in the Machine is a spawn point beyond the digital screen. Artists Kalanjay Dhir, Rainer Ciar, Fei Gao and Celacious666 reimagine the gallery as the computer, an embodiment of infinite virtual worlds where fragments of fiction, popular culture and media entwine, and where we are both our own avatars and privy to the artists’ reincarnations of themselves," writes Tess Bakharia. Don't miss the chance to hear from @rainerciar , @feithebeast and @celacious666 , in-conversation with @tesssworrldd , a writer and curator whose own practice engages deeply with decolonial discourse, digital architectures, the decentralisation of contemporary experience, and the reimagining of speculative futures. 👾 GHOST IN THE AVATAR WHEN: 5:30pm - 6:30pm AEST, Thursday 19 June WHERE: Online | Registration required to receive link FREE | All welcome Read more about 'Ghost in the Machine' by heading to or hit the 🔗 📸 @loui_slim #artisttalk #australiaartist #gallery #australianart #visualart #digitalculture

Pigment-loaded brushes, digital technologies, mixed media assemblages, embodied performance, virtual avatars & projected light, each medium intricately weaves into the make-up of this exhibition 🫆 Join the artists behind ‘Ghost in the Machine’ for an in-depth conversation with Writer and Curator Tess Bakharia, exploring the exhibition’s central themes of identity, embodiment, and the spectral presence of self in mediated realities. 👾 GHOST IN THE AVATAR WHEN: 5:30pm - 6:30pm AEST, Thursday 19 June WHERE: Online | Registration required to receive link Through the lens of avatars, roleplay, and fan-created mythologies, the panel will unpack how emotional truth and personal memory become re-authored within digital and speculative terrains. Together, they will explore what it means to exist through projection - how digital masks, whether used as protection or performance, become vessels for shared feeling, transformation, and the fleeting embodiment of other selves. Writer and Curator Tess Bakharia, will delve deeper into the shared themes of each artists practice, whose own practice engages deeply with decolonial discourse, digital architectures, the decentralisation of contemporary experience, and the reimagining of speculative futures. @tesssworrldd @celacious666 @feithebeast @rainerciar This public program is free, however, registration is required to receive the online meeting link 🔗 Head to our bio. This project is supported by the Australian Government through Creative Australia. Cover Image 📸 @loui_slim #artisttalk #australiaartist #gallery #australianart #visualart #digitalculture

👾 Hello World, meet 𝔾𝕙𝕠𝕤𝕥 𝕚𝕟 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕄𝕒𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕖, a group show that we've been working on under the wraps→brought to you by @celacious666 , @rainerciar , @feithebeast & @kalanjay We're thrilled to be exhibiting at @outerspace.brisbane in Meanjin! Opening on 30 May, if you're in town, come celebrate with us from 6-9pm 🪩 @feithebeast will be performing a new work 'The Shell' 🪽 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕: What if we find our souls to be enmeshed in media and fictional imaginings? That the ghosts of us reside and stir within other vessels or interfaces; our realities (re)written, performed, and embodied even though we know it all to be a story. To describe a feeling through giving it a face — to use it as a mask or a shield. What if I’m more real when I’m projecting? 'Ghost in the Machine' brings together Celacious666, Rainer Ciar, Fei Gao and Kalanjay Dhir, whose shared interests in avatars and embodiment were born from fiction and digital cultures. Reliving memories and emotions through roleplay — by creating costume, illustrations and fanwork, the artists manifest alternate personas and characters that give body and form to psychological landscapes. Mediated through degrees of separation, these fantasies are part escapist, part confrontation with being human. In wearing our masks as extensions of ourselves, we may all embody others and share in their lives, loves, and sorrows for a moment. 📺🌐👾 ⁺₊⋆ 🦾🪽🪲🧑🏽‍❤️‍🧑🏻 Thank you for this wonderful opportunity @outerspace.brisbane team & working with us closely to materialise the show. We can't wait for you to read a brilliant text by @tesssworldd 🖋️ For our friends at home, we'll have an online offering soon 🖥️ keep an eye out! typography by @rainerciar background by @celinc_c ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⡴⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢰⣯⠀⢀⣠⡶⠛⠉⠙⠳⡄⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⢺⣰⠟⠁⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠉⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⡏⠀⠀⣠⠤⢤⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⠆⠀⠸⠄⠀⠀⣿⡄⣀⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣳⠀⠀⠀⠀⢀⣾⣿⡇⢠⣿⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⣀⣠⣶⢴⡤⡶⣖⡒⡗⠛⢿⡷⣶⣾⡿⠋⠙⠿⠟⠉⠑⠒⠂ ⠀⣰⠾⠛⠋⠹⢽⣿⡦⡮⣿⡇⣤⣤⡈⢻⡄⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⢺⠋⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠘⣽⣵⣫⣿⡃⡼⠇⣸⠃⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠸⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⡟⣿⠛⢊⡽⠿⠛⠿⣶⣦⣄⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣻⣯⡱⠁⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⢿⣧⡀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢰⡿⠡⣟⠇⠀⠀⠀⢀⣀⡀⠀⠸⣿⡇⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠈⠢⠶⠤⠞⠋⠁⢸⡏⠀⠀⢀⣿⠃⠀⠀⠀⢰⣧⠇⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣧⠀⠀⢨⡿⡀⠀⠀⣰⣿⠋⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠠⣿⠀⠀⠀⠙⠚⠷⠿⠟⠁

Previously volunteering as a gallery keeper before becoming a co-director with Pari earlier this year, Rainer Ciar is one of the incredible minds that brought us Kin; in Mixed Business 4 he was kind enough to share his work ‘Children of Steel, Soldiers of Slime’, 2023 A2 framed print, mixed media sculpture 30x45x25cm Struggling through dirt and blood, their skin grows callous with scars. Records of their words are lost to the wind, only an image remains. It’s exhausting when one fights for their entire lives. Inspired by Serwah’s visual style, I wanted to both return to my roots as an illustrator and experiment with character design and mixed media. Inspired by ambiguously gendered historical figures, anachronistic fantasy video games, and anime characters co-opted and fetishised. Made with gracious help from Serwah and Leila. Artist spotlight: Rainer Ciar @rainerciar 🐉🔮🃏 Rainer Ciar is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, and freelance illustrator living and working on Dharug Country (Western Sydney). Their diverse practice includes sculpture and installation, illustration, writing and a variety of digital art making methods as they continue to learn and explore different mediums. Primarily interested in exploring the concepts of isolation, comfort, nostalgia, and fantasy, Rainer relates his work to his own experiences of gender and youth. Playing with visibility and abstraction in his work, he is interested in the narratives and relationships woven between the objects he creates and is currently enthusiastic about continuing to explore the possibilities held within digital mediums. Rainer holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at UNSW. They have participated in artist development at PariAri (The Ropes, 2022 with Samuel Kirby and Rebecca Gallo), and assisted with the student-run show the Anti-Annual (107 Projects, Airspace, Join the Dots, and Flow Studios, 2021).

🔮🪞Finally posting about my upcoming exhibition! Dimension Door is on 12-21 of October at 31 Belmore Road Randwick. Check my bio for the eventbrite bc we’ve got an opening night and workshops coming soon 🌸 Made with love from me and @marleena_o , I also wanna shout out @kudos_arc @k.h.bebe and the Sinew crew for helping us out❤️‍🔥🖤❤️‍🔥 Made as a reflection of their shared time playing Dungeons & Dragons together, Dimension Door is a mix of sentimentality and self-reflection. Using the trope of ruins, the room grows littered with detritus from their fantasy games- the breaking down of boundaries and escape into shared fictions grows muddy as the outside world makes its way in. Allowing these domains to crumble together, they mine the figments of fiction and reality to make their sculptural and illustrative work, and share their love for the game. Rainer presents a suite of sculptural works drawn from magical items- mystical objects that provide players and their foes new and sometimes finite powers. Constructed from a variety of materials, they blend the fantastical shapes and descriptions of these items and turn their forms back into toys and props for play. Marleena’s illustrations are drawn from the characters she’s played and inhabited over the years, transformed into zines and a Dungeon Master’s screen. Evocative of the materials necessary to play the game in person, she creates work that actualises her fictional adventures in the present reality. ⚡️🔮⚡️ #artistsoninstagram #randwick #dndart #ceramics #illustration #dndcharacter

A couple weeks ago I got to write and perform with Framework/ Fatal Crush ^_^ finally found the photos of the performance from @marleena_o thank you for the pics 🥰💖🔮the full text is in my bio, so it’d mean the world to me if you gave it (and everyone else’s lovely writing) a look through! It’s a little piece about art making and the internet, a topic I’ve been ruminating on for years so it was really nice to actually finish a piece in a more free form essay style. Also thank you @emoeba for the writing support and editing, and @k.h.bebe for the graphic design ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 hopefully I tagged everyone but just msg me if I forgot you :’) . . . . . #writing #essaywriting #readingnight

Sorry for not posting anything in a year 🥲 Here’s my honours work Aside from struggling to post here, I’ve had a lot of mental health issues over the year that have been making it difficult to stay connected. But I’m done with honours and I wanna try making the effort to keep up more with online stuff :’) My honours work is all about solitude and queer affirmation and I’ll put a link in my bio to more about the work. And thanks for reading this far 💝
