BREAD AND BOOKS: Every now and then I get myself into a little slump. What am I doing? Why am I doing this? Does cooking really matter? Am I really any good at any of it? . Then, out of the blue, I receive a photo like this one. A beautiful tattoo of some bread and books. . Those of you who have ever been fed by me before, whether at weddings, or feasts, parties or retreats, will know that I always start by taking a loaf of bread, wrapping it in paper, and sharing it round the table. I believe it brings people together, creates a bond, opens our hearts to new people and experiences. . I did this at a retreat in France with @ladieswholit_ back in May. And it meant so much to one of our gorgeous guests, that she got this tattoo. . What seemed so simple to us - bread and books - meant so much more. It was nourishment, and care, and connection. . I think so often we see what we do on its surface - chop, stir, wash up! - and we can get overwhelmed by the day to day and forget that we are providing so much more than a plate of edible sustenance. We are creating experiences that let people know they are loved. Their bodies are worthy of joy and deliciousness, and sitting round a table, with strangers or friends, fosters life long connections. . So next time, when I’m unnecessarily melting down about how truly awful, or ridiculous, or too much, or not enough, or any of the other bullshits I tell myself, I will remember this moment. When someone I met once was so touched by something I did that they permanently tattooed it onto their body. . And it will spur me on to go forth into the world with as much love as my heart can muster to cook with passion for connection and with joy. . . . . . #feastable #feastableuk #foodtattoo #foodtattoos #ladieswholit #breadandbooks #whyidoit #cheflife #privatechef #retreatchef # @chelswl @ladieswholit_

I run a food business. A business whose entire ethos is to use food to bring people together. A business that uses food to create memories and experiences. A business that believes food is more than just fuel. A business that believes food holds the power to tell stories and weave magic. . This is only possible though when supply is plentiful that food can be about more than just survival. Where we don’t feel the stabs of hunger in our stomach or fear of where the next morsel will come from. Whether our kids will die through not having enough to eat to fuel their tiny bodies. . Regardless of your political position, we are all human beings. Each an every one of us. And currently there are children, who are starving. There are parents watching their children starve whilst starving themselves. . The political chasm may be wide and complex, but the humanity isn’t. It is simple. No one should be starved. Everyone deserves to eat. Every single person. . @mattzhaig said it perfectly - There is no context that justifies the deliberate starvation of children. . Here are just some organisations trying to get food to our fellow human beings: @chooselove @warchilduk @savechildrenuk @oxfamgb .

LADIES WHO LIT: the French retreat. . Instagram brought to my attention an incredible company called @ladieswholit_ who run women’s only reading retreats, and unlike almost all suggestions that Insta throws my way - which are, should we say, utter shite! - this one hit a chord deep in my heart. . On a whim I sent a message asking if they ever needed private chefs to cater their retreats, fully expecting an opportunity this incredible never to come to fruition. . A message back, a call scheduled, a menu written and a flight booked and an opportunity beyond my wildest dreams became a reality. . I get to travel, cooking in incredible locations, with amazing local ingredients, picking up baguettes every morning from the local bakery so fresh they’re warm enough to almost burn your arm as you carry them back, taking breaks by the pool to read book in the sun (instead of sitting on a fire escape scrolling Instagram), sampling local icecream (research purposes of course), drinking stupid cocktails (team building obvs!), walking through beautiful French towns looking for treats. . All this is true, but to me, retreat cooking is about so much more than putting out delicious food 3 times a day. . You have 11 meals, in succession, to show your guests that they are worthy of not just nourishment, but time, and care, and joy. Each breakfast, lunch and dinner becomes an opportunity to communicate that they deserve - as I believe all women do! - to have their needs met, and exceeded. As they sat and talked, opened their bellies and their hearts to what will always be at the centre of every dish we prepare - love. . It may sound corny, it may sound cheesy, but I absolutely f*cking love my job! And with every retreat/wedding/event we do, bolstered by the strength of women believing in and supporting other women, I get to do it again and again and I could not be more grateful. . Please, dearest Feastablers, we will feed you any time, any where around the world! . Also - there was a hedgehog who was on the grounds of the house and we named him Gary! . . . #feastable #ladieswholit #readingretreat #retreatchef #privatechef #retreatcatering #feastableuk #garythehedgehog

“HANDBAG!” . Beef and ale handbag pies. Mini pies, deliciously filled, with handles strong enough to hold. . But why I hear you ask? . It was Sheryl’s 60th birthday, and her children gave us a whole host of her classic phrases for us to make a menu from. A lot of the jokes were personal to the family, but as each course was greeted with shrieks of laughter and rounds of joyous applause, Sheryl was celebrated for being the fabulous, filthy mouthed wonder that she is. . Because when we say bespoke, we really do mean it. We don’t just ask you about what foods you love - although this is also very important to us - but we want to know who you are. . Our menus are designed to tell stories, to make you feel seen and special, to use food to bring people together. . If you know someone you want to celebrate, if you want your story told through food, then we are the chefs for you. Who you are is equally as important as what you love to eat. . We cannot wait to feed you. . This past year has been one of exponential change. My small world has changed beyond recognition, the wider world following suit. . When feeling vulnerable and overwhelmed, Instagram seems to always be the first communication to go. Feeds, grids and stories full of hope and despair in equal measure leave me feeling unsure of what to share and when. . In a brief moment of boldness I want to be incredibly clear: Feastable is a business that was built to bring people together through food. . We are here to honour your stories through menus, create dishes that uplift spirits and, if we have done our jobs right, make you feel seen, loved and, not just accepted, but celebrated for who you are. . I am aware that I cannot change the world the way I would like, with the immediacy I wish, however, what is in my power is to do everything in my ability to cook with a passion to make everyone who takes a bite of our food feel valued and nourished. I hope that every table we host will be full of conversations where people come together over food and are able to discover that we have more that connects us, more in common, more that binds us together than that which divides us. . Whoever you are, whatever your story is, we want to find the joy in what makes you who you are, and celebrate the good in that what connects us all. . As Lady Cluck so passionately, and rightly said: love conquers all! . . . .
