24h before Farming Turns goes live 🔥 The movie takes us through @chrisrubens ’ journey from globe-trotter to organic farmer. At first glance, this transformation might seem like an unbridgeable gap, but the film shows us how positive this change has been for Chris and his family, helping him find the right balance in the world we all share. Available tomorrow on our YouTube channel 🍿 #FarmingTurns #RideProtectShare 📷 @eye_b_long 🎥 @anthonybonello

Tonight is the night and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the opening of my first exhibition ‘Collage Education’ at the @revelstoke_visualartscentre It’s been about a year in the making and the culmination of a goal that I set for myself when I made the decision to pursue this new path. Here are a few of the pieces that will be displayed tonight but you gotta see them in person to really understand the depth and detail that goes into making these at scale. Soft opening is from 3-5pm and the main opening is from 5-8pm. Can’t wait to see you all there!

Paper paper paper. Finding the right materials for these projects over the past year has had me canvassing friends, searching out garage sales, stopping at every thrift store and picking through every side-of-the-road book exchange I could find. It involved multiple trips to the Crescent Valley to visit the most amazing collection of historical memorabilia, as well as finding random newspapers from right here at home provided by friends. It also involved a lot of reading books and sifting through magazines and newspapers for inspiration. It’s been a journey so far and all of this searching has taken me down many roads that seemed like dead ends but always taught me something in the end. Hopefully all that time spent thinking and processing what to create will leave everyone thinking a little more about what the art says to them. Excited to see everyone next Thursday, July 31, at the @revelstoke_visualartscentre for the opening!

For the past year, I’ve been going through a major transition when it comes to creativity. Having lost the drive and passion for photography, it was time to pursue something new, to scratch an itch that I had been having for years. It took many hours and months to find a path and a direction but almost exactly a year after taking the dive into making my own art, I will be presenting my first ever show at the @revelstoke_visualartscentre visual on Thursday July 31st. While this is extremely terrifying, it is also part of the process and a good exercise in showing and sharing the work that I have been spending so much of my time thinking about for the past year. I’m hoping to see lots of people out to share with all 4 artists and to celebrate the work we/they all spend so much time working on. I’ll be sharing snippets of my work all week leading up to the show opening on Thursday.

Iceland’s ecosystems are fragile. Bike tires are not. So mountain bikers are getting creative. After visiting Iceland in 2018, Mark Matthews (@markymath ) returns with Bruno Long—this time with a deeper understanding of the land and a renewed purpose in this almost mythical place. Full story in print ➡️ Issue 80. Words and photos by Bruno Long (@eye_b_long ). #mountainflyer #mtb #iceland #magazine

The first book in my all-time favourite series, The Dark Tower, here is a collage made out of ‘The Gunslinger’. While I wouldn’t say I was totally in love with the design of this piece, there was a lot of learning going on along the way. There are grand visions floating around in my head when thinking of ideas for books, magazines or newspaper collages, but it’s ok be satisfied with where your skills are at the moment and just learn what you can from doing the work and figuring out the process. This series took Stephen King over 30 years from his first inkling of the story to the final book of the 7-part story and is by all accounts his magnum opus. He stopped, started, avoided, started again, stopped again, many times over those decades. For someone who I consider a master of his craft, what I can glean from this is to just continue to do the work that inspires you and focus on the process. Learn everything you write, paint, collage, draw, photograph, or whatever your passion is. Keep learning and your skills will improve.

While it has been awhile since I’ve shot any mountain biking, it was a nice surprise to get this cover shot of the 20th Anniversary issue of @mountain_flyer last week. What a great reminder of a fun trip to Chile with the @scor_mtb crew and some close friends. Pictured here are @loosedoglewis and @ludo_may carving up some volcanic dust that was about as close to powder skiing as I’ve ever seen. Big thanks to Mike Lorenz, photo editor or MF and Backcountry Magazine, who has supported my photography for years and become a great colleague. Cheers!!

While scouring the internet in the spring looking for inspiration, I came across the work of @tricksf and it really struck a chord with me. As a longtime magazine contributor, using paper as a medium of art came naturally and his work really spoke to me. I’ve spent a lot of time over the past few months experimenting with the dyeing process, as well as cutting and glueing the pieces in the most efficient and cleanest way. It has been a rewarding experience and I have learned so much in the past few months. I was recently reading George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’ and had an idea to use the pages from the book to create a piece of art inspired by the theme of the book while also using the pages of the book. Having this connection between the idea and the medium feels very right to me and I have recently picked up several more books to continue along this path. This is the first finished piece, which I like to call ‘Pro-Pig-Ganda’, an ode to communist propaganda posters and the overall sentiment of the book. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend this short but powerful tale. Mixed medium paper collage with acrylic 120cm x 90 cm Birch panel Frame incoming #propiganda #collageeducation

If you don’t already know this incredible family, they are the heart and soul of @firstlightfarm based in Revelstoke. Over the past few years, they have been raising money and donating food to the local food bank as a way to help the community and its members with food security issues. Wanting to help out with their cause, I created a one-of-a-kind piece of art to raffle off for the premiere of the #FarmingTurns movie about the farm and Chris’ ski career. The raffle ends today but there is still time to buy tickets for another 9-10 hours. The link to the raffle is in my bio and I will draw the winner sometime this evening (it’s still early morning here in New Zealand) and will announce the winner tomorrow. Good luck and thanks for supporting this incredible family and farm.
