Symbols, images and text have solidified the nationstate of ‘Australia’; flags, coats of arms, heraldic imagery, insignia and landscape depictions have all been reproduced in educational and historical books using the print technologies of the time. These books present ‘Australian’ history and colonial cultural and legal ownership in such a way as to help allow the British Empire and the Australian Government to represent its power with authority through the technology of print. Through visually and chemically disintegrating and examining these images and breaking free the natural symbols within, using the same technology of print, I hope to create space to transmute them anew.” - Tom

Excited to announce that I have been invited to exhibit a new collection of work for the Melbourne International Flower and garden show at the Royal Exhibition building and Carlton Gardens. Thanks to @julia.bevis.art the new artistic director, and the @melbflowershow for inviting me to exhibit and paint a live mural. The body of work has been built over the last 6 months, whilst rebuilding and growing after a tough year with my health, the work is reflective of the physical, emotional and mental discomfort of letting go and growing tall. ‘I once stopped to smell the roses, but now I can smell them in the air’

Thanks @neil_ernest_tomkins for making the trip down from Sydney to see the show! It’s been amazing to see people making an effort to travel interstate for this exhibition, this show marks a big milestone for me, with the launch of new body of work that departs from my ‘refraction paintings’ with the frosted screen. It’s the largest body of work I’ve outside together for a single show in my career, with 45 pieces in the collection. 13 large paintings surround the walls, supported by a salon hang of studies and smaller works, and the two sound installations. NOISY EYES is open today from 12-6pm with some fun interactive audio visual works like the Particle Plate, seen here being activated by legendary landscape painter Neil Tomkins. @neil_ernest_tomkins
