I’m thrilled to be back @metopera in 2026/27 for the Laffont Grand Finals Concert on March 21, 2027 with the incomparable @metorchestra . Few projects are more rewarding for a conductor than working with the next generation of extraordinary talent. When I led this concert in 2024, the legendary #DenyceGraves hosted and guest artist #RyanSpeedoGreen sang an unforgettable Dutchman’s monologue from Wagner’s #DerFliegendeHolländer. Over the course of each year, the @metoperacompetition — led by @melissawegnernyc and team — crisscrosses the nation to select 10 finalists from over 1,700 applicants. It all culminates in opera’s own ‘March Madness,’ an intense week of further auditions, coaching and mentoring in #NewYork, preparing young artists to sing for the first time on the world’s greatest stage. Don’t miss one of the most exciting days of the MET season. Watch this space for updates on next season’s host, guest artist & other exciting news … Photo: Natalie Powers / Met Opera

>> The covenant — that culture could stand apart from politics — has been broken. “Such diplomacy seems unimaginable now,” Rogister says. “It shows how limited our leaders have become. But freedom of expression always finds a way. And I believe these institutions will flourish again.” Thanks again to @annaravne & @informationdk for the great conversation (#linkinbio) about the intersection of arts and global events. We live in hope … Photo: @sigrid_nygaard

#WrittenonSkin has been nominated for Årets Reumert 2026 - Opera of the Year. Congratulations to Sir George Benjamin, Martin Crimp, Katie Mitchell, @detkglkapel and the entire WoS cast and team @kglteater ! Few works of theatre, music or film deliver such an intense and profound impact on audiences. For all of its complexity, conducting George’s score feels like being a kid in a candy shop—the conductor and orchestra are invited to unleash thrilling energy and emotions. Thanks to Elisabeth Linton (@lissylinton ), Dominik Licht (@kinimodslife ) and Kasper Holten (@kasperholten ) for bringing this modern masterpiece to Copenhagen. Congratulations and best wishes to all of the nominees! ______________ ‘Written on Skin’ George Benjamin | Composer Martin Crimp | Librettist CAST Daniel Okulitch | Protector Gisela Stille | Agnés Morten Grove Frandsen | First Angel/Boy Mathilda Sidén Silfver | Second Angel/Marie Jacob Skov Andersen | Third Angel/John CREATIVE TEAM Katie Mitchell | Director Evan Rogister | Conductor Vicki Mortimer | Set & Costume Design Jon Clark | Lighting Design Det Kongelige Kapel

Happy 100th Birthday to Sir David Attenborough: Naturalist, Humanitarian, Statesman, Educator, and Music Lover! In May of 2023, Sir David attended a performance of Don Giovanni which I led @glyndebourne w/ @orchestraoftheageenlightenment . Sir David mentioned afterwards that he‘d never noticed Mozart‘s part writing in a certain passage and how the violas‘ playing of an inner voice had moved him. Just as he has imparted his awe for the natural world w/ generations of viewers, Sir David shared the same sense of wonder before Mozart. It was a moment I‘ll never forget and I wish i had recorded his inimitable voice in conversation with me & @danielledenieseofficial 🫶🙏

Stunning sonic + visual experience from OAE + Squidsoup as part of our Multitudes festival! - Impressive work from @orchestraoftheageenlightenment conducted by @evanrogister + Squidsoup (@squidie ) creating a visual feast of 16,128 tiny lightbulbs, illuminating the sublime programme of pastoral music including Vaughan Williams and Elgar + the inventive use of our ‘Concrete Voids’ surround-sound system, masterminded by @tonydbirch , enhancing the music with cathedral-esque acoustics complete with birdsong. Sublime. ‘Echoes of Hill and Horizon’ was part of ‘Multitudes’ – @southbankcentre ’s multi-arts festival powered by orchestral music. 📸: @petewoodhead

Echoes of Hill and Horizon. @orchestraoftheageenlightenment @squidie @evanrogister @southbankcentre #concretevoids. Of all the Orchestras in the world, the least likely to jump into such an insane light and sound adventure is the OAE. But led by the incredible artistic vision of @waffyclarinet that’s exactly what they did and it’s been a truly magical experience and my honour to be creatively involved. 🙏

Hear it live, link in bio or /whats-on/echoes-of-hill-and-horizon/ Tonight we are exploring the outer reaches of what we usually play with a program of 20th Century music including The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams. Our leader Kati Debretzeni takes us through the experience of performing the iconic British piece for the first time. With conductor Evan Rogister at the helm, the performance is enhanced by a responsive lighting installation by @squidie and a custom-built system of 80 speakers, Concrete Voids, turning the Queen Elizabeth Hall into a 3D sound instrument, allowing the lark to fly around the space.

Does seeing the original manuscript change your perception of a piece? Join us on a visit to the @royalacademyofmusic to see the original manuscript of Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, with conductor Evan Rogister and OAE leader Maggie Faultless. We perform the piece at ‘Echoes of Hill and Horizon’ as part of the Multitudes Festival @southbankcentre on Wednesday 22 April. /whats-on/echoes-of-hill-and-horizon/

The Southbank Centre in London presidents ‘Multitudes: A Multi-Arts Festival, Powered by Orchestral Music’ On April 22nd I’ll reunite with the boundary-breaking musicians of @orchestraoftheageenlightenment , in collaboration with #Squidsoup (@squidie ), pioneers in the use of light, sound and technology, for ‘Echoes of Hill and Horizon.’ Our program features hallmarks of late English Romanticism: Ralph Vaughan Williams’s ‘Lark Ascending’ and ‘Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis’, Edward Elgar’s ‘String Serenade’ and Peter Warlock’s ‘Capriol Suite’. Harnessing the Queen Elizabeth Hall’s experimental sound system—Concrete Voids—the OAE’s soundscape and Squidsoup’s interactive lights will envelop the senses. Virtuoso violinist Kati Debretzeni is the soloist in Vaughan William’s ‘Lark.’ Can’t wait to kick off a spring and summer of projects with the OAE… soon after the @southbankcentre program, rehearsals begin @glyndebourne for Mozart’s ‘Die Entführung aus dem Serail’. Sir David McVicar’s celebrated production opens July 31 and runs through 28 August. Photo: @tomlindboe

The hottest ticket in the world right now is a five-hour-long opera … On Monday night @metopera , 4,000 people ‘cared about opera’, sitting in rapt attention under the spell of Met Music Director @nezetseguin and @metorchestra + @metoperachorus w/stunning performances by @lisedavidsen , @spikelmyers , @speedogreen , @tomasz.koneiczny , @gubanova_mezzo , and @oboe_pedro in @yuvalsharon_nyc ’s brilliant production. Wagner’s ‘Tristan und Isolde’ can often feel elusive and overly intellectual, but on Monday it was blazingly relevant and visceral. I’m still on a high from the experience. Many thanks to our host @graham3rd for providing Synne & I the perfect excuse for a transatlantic date night. Don’t miss it, @tchalamet
