Children's Service! 🌟😄⛪ Tomorrow at 10.15am in the Lady Chapel
Join us for this month’s Children's Service, led by our Junior Choir. This relaxed, fun and accessible service is aimed at families with young children. There will be lots of lovely music and an interactive sermon.
The aim is to offer inclusive worship with engaging music and activities for children of all ages. It strengthens community bonds while giving young singers valuable performance opportunities, forming a part of the Cathedral’s In Tune Music and Organ Campaign.
Can't wait to see you there! 🎵😎
Something a little different? That’s exactly the point ✨
Yesterday, for Ascension Day, our beautiful choral voices, many of whom attend @kingsschoolglos , rose from the top of our Cathedral tower and echoed across Gloucestershire - and towards heaven - in one of the most extraordinary moments in our musical year 🎶⛪☁️
🔊 Turn your volume up to hear the beautiful chorus.
It’s a centuries-old tradition, but also a reminder that we can still surprise you.
Ascension Day marks a moment in the Christian calendar when Jesus ascended into heaven, 40 days after Easter. One of our oldest celebrations, it offers a chance to step back from daily life and reflect on hope, renewal and spirituality ✨
Perhaps take a moment before reading on to consider what those words mean to you.
For us, worship is about creating moments of awe, wonder and connection - whether through music soaring from the tower, candlelit concerts beneath Gothic arches, or shared experiences that stay with people long after they leave 🕯️
And this is just the beginning of what’s coming this Spring and Summer 🌿

🤔Did you know....
Our Lady Chapel contains some of the finest stained glass by Christopher Whall - a leading British stained-glass artist who worked from the 1880s and on into the 20th century.
🗨"Christopher Whall's windows in Gloucester Lady Chapel are arguably the finest post-medieval stained glass in any of our cathedrals, and, with the possible exception of the unexecuted Christchurch Priory designs, his finest large scale work"- William Morris Gallery Exhibition catalogue by Peter Cormack
Why not come along to see this incredible work for yourself? The light in the afternoon is mesmerising through the stained glass windows! 📸

⛪This Thursday we will celebrate Ascension, commemorating the ascension of Jesus Christ into Heaven. This service will take place in the Quire of the Cathedral, and as is tradition, the Cathedral Choir will sing the final hymn from the top of the Cathedral tower 🎵
🕊No booking is required to attend this service. Simply turn up and enjoy.
🙏Yesterday we were delighted to welcome our friends from the National Foundation for Retired Service Animals to the Cathedral for their first celebration service.
We were joined by horses and dogs from the police service, the military, Border Force, and more, all of whom work hard to keep us safe every day. ❤ 🐕🐈🐎
On Wednesday 29 April, we celebrated 48 learners at our annual Gardening for Wellbeing Awards.
This year, we were pleased to welcome groups from the Gloucester Schools Partnership primary schools, who have been attending weekly gardening sessions at the Cathedral this spring, as well as Year 10 and 11 students from Paternoster School, who have been working on a 10-week-long project in our grounds.
As usual, we also celebrated the adult participants in our Wednesday Gardening for Wellbeing group, who meet weekly to garden in the Cathedral grounds.
All participants earned AQA Unit Award Scheme certificates, which aim to build wellbeing, pride and, in some cases, employability. Dean Andrew was pleased to award the certificates. Well done to everyone for all your hard work.
If you or someone you know would be interested in taking part in Gardening for Wellbeing, which runs every Wednesday from 10.30am to 12 noon (with a drink and cake at the café included!), please email: [email protected]
⚒️ On Tuesday we were delighted to welcome some of our founding members of the Stonemasons’ Circle for a special behind-the-scenes experience!
👷♀️ Guests spent time in the stonemasons’ workshop, hearing directly from our senior masons about their craft - building real connections and gaining insight into their skill and dedication. The afternoon continued with an exclusive visit to the Cloisters for a behind-the-scenes look at the East Cloister project and the intricate work taking place.
💛 Their support is making a real difference - helping care for the Cathedral’s fabric, preserve vital heritage skills, and inspire future stonemasons. If you’d like to enjoy exclusive access like this and be part of this special community, we would love you to join us.

What’s that noise?!
Our brand new organ is currently being installed, and our wonderful organ builders at Nicholson & Co. Ltd Ltd are busy regulating the pipes. During your visit, you may hear some unusual sounds coming from the organ as this exciting work takes place!
The scaffolding will also be coming down over the next couple of days, so please be aware there may be some additional noise around the building.
Thank you for your understanding as we bring this incredible new instrument to life!
