The production of cameras relies heavily on Earth’s natural resources, including rare minerals like lithium, cobalt, and tungsten, which are used in batteries, sensors, and electronic components. Meanwhile, humans have long used cameras and other technologies to observe animals in their natural habitats, seeking to better understand their behavior, communication, and ecosystems. This surveillance has enabled scientists to gather valuable data on species that are difficult to study up close, such as migratory patterns or nocturnal activities. However, this raises ethical questions: How far can humans go in their exploration of the natural world? Do animals have a right to privacy? As technology advances, the line between research and intrusion becomes increasingly blurred. Spying, whether on animals or humans, reflects a delicate hierarchical game that exposes the power dynamics between the observer and the observed. In this con-text, the focus often remains on the technical performance of the cameras, rather than the ethical implications of their use, sparking debates about the limits of human intervention in the lives of other creatures.
