I’ve never felt at home in the idea of what a woman should be. How we’re supposed to look, act, speak, design, or move through the world. A lot of my illustration work comes from that quiet refusal, a minimalist answer to an overwhelming culture. When I find myself once again doubting everything I do, it helps me to return to words that remind me of who I am or who I want to become. If you’re looking for motivational quotes, keep scrolling. All I did was list a handful of quotes that make me feel empowered instead of drowning in self-pity. This is not my comfort zone… 🫣 I challenged myself to draw something completely new — and after the expected struggle (and the inevitable meltdown), I found myself feeling more and more confident again. Here’s how I did it: ✏️ Break it down: I took the jellyfish apart, studying its components — the bell, tentacles, and arms — through quick sketches. ✏️ Build on the imperfect: I duplicated sketch layers or lowered their opacity, so I could refine and improve what wasn’t quite right yet. ✏️ Focus on form: Using Procreate’s symmetry tool helped me speed up the process so I could fully concentrate on understanding the shapes of this unfamiliar subject. ✏️ Add my touch: Finally, I applied my signature color palette and decorative style elements to make the illustration cohesive and unmistakably mine. 🔒 Save this post for the next time you feel like stepping outside your comfort zone. 〰️ #jellyfishillustration #minimalistillustration #procreatehack #sandrastaub #sandrastaubillo
