Songbirds imitate mobile phone melodies and incorporate them into their singing. This phenomenon is the starting point for Singsong. The ‘flock of birds’ by Marianne Halter & Mario Marchisella sings naturally on the one hand, while on the other hand, melodies of well-known mobile phone ringtones can be heard, intoned with the birdsong.
The composition is based on the classical structure of a choral work with the full spectrum of all vocal registers: soprano (blackcap, nightingale), mezzo-soprano (great tit), alto (blackbird), tenor (oriole, cuckoo), baritone (tawny owl) and bass (long-eared owl).
The work is dedicated to my mother, who was a bird lover and had an amazing knowledge of birdsongs.
I am very proud to announce a new musical project, The Sea Around Us. Composed and recorded between cities and continents, the debut album Antitopèia is a sonic landscape of imagined places and poetic dissonance. The album drifts between composition and improvisation, structure and spontaneity, carried by a cinematic undercurrent and a distinctly tactile sound world.
At the centre are Mario Marchisella and João Orecchia, with incredible contributions from guest musicians Magda Drozd, Saadet Türköz and Gilles Furtwängler.

The artist Marianne Halter (*1970) and the musician Mario Marchisella (*1972) have been working together since 2008 on artistic projects that result from their preoccupation with space and action, sound and image and are usually shown in the form of videos and site-specific installations. Based on everyday actions and places, they make their temporality tangible. The specific context plays an important role here. Be it as a contrast or break with the performance location, where the work lands like a kind of UFO; be it that the landscape, its use and appearance or the history(ies) of the location become the subject of the work.
