Reappraising ornament as historically functional, the project tests its latent value even in apparent uselessness. Across three chapters, it stages a dialogue between decor and function.Functional Decorum revisits ornament’s decline in architectural thinking. Highlighting Decor and Decorating Use applies silver leaf to existing elements, probing ornament-function relations.A Good Misreading for a Good Place presents five acts of gilding with custom candleholders casting light onto the silvered surfaces. Not a manifesto, but a playful gesture that blurs the lines between decor, use, and uselessness for a good place.
