0068 EIP Exchange In Practice - Building Between The Lines The invitation to Exchange in Practice, a two-day international workshop in Rotterdam, confronted us with a problem: how to translate a polyphony of voices - inherent to our cooperative way of working - into a format that demanded a single delegate. Our response was a rotating system of representation. Throughout the exchange, different members stepped forward at different moments, each temporarily speaking as ACME, wearing a self-embroidered cap as a common denominator. 0029 KLO Under Construction The temporary and unintended emergence of an impressive double‑height space, forced by regulations around stability, fire safety, and accessibility. A contradiction to our vision for the monastery: preserve as much as possible. Photos by @jeroenverrecht

0011 MAR Under Construction A slender steel staircase runs along the party wall of community centre De Markten, connecting the attic theatre to the inner courtyard. Six stringers were bolted together on the ground before the fifteen-metre-long stair was meticulously manoeuvred into position – barely fitting between the neighbouring façades of the dense urban block. The self-supporting structure is conceived as a diagonal ladder, fixed at its base and resting unrestrained at the top. A narrow gap between the staircase and the wall makes the structural concept tangible. 0000 ACME Cooperative ACME treats its collaborative structure as a design challenge in its own right: the search for a new, non-hierarchical organizational model for architectural practice. The traditional structure of the architectural sector is socially unsustainable, a battleground of underpaid faux-freelancers and unpaid foreign labour. A wealth of talent and design capacity flees the field; public space pays the price. ACME is a counter-movement, an experiment in cooperative entrepreneurship that pushes equality to its extremes. After two years, collaborators automatically become co-owners with full decision-making power. Shares carry a symbolic value of one euro, can only be acquired through labour, and are capped per person. The founders’ ownership will gradually dilute as ACME grows and matures, a deliberate response to the anachronistic cult of personality in the architectural scene, and a guarantee that the practice will continue to renew itself. 0000 P21A Office Warming To celebrate the opening of our new office, we transformed the site through a series of spatial interventions. The entrance gate was reimagined as a billboard, clad with posters welcoming the neighbourhood, and ceremonially sliced open at the start of the event. A red carpet made from vapour barrier guided visitors past four screens displaying our new website, linking two key spaces: a derelict ruin repurposed into a bar, and the kitchen-turned-DJ booth. In the overgrown garden, crop circles were carved into the wild vegetation, creating places to sit and linger around ambiguous objects, neither quite wheelbarrow nor table. 0031 P21 Workspace In the heart of a lush collective garden, a derelict warehouse has been renovated into a multi-use work hub. The project is an experiment in reuse and climatization - challenging conventional comfort standards and exploring new possibilities for spatial use and architectural expression. At the center of the warehouse, a compact timber-framed volume serves as a climatized office space. The rest of the building remains uninsulated and unconditioned - transitional zones that mediate between the garden and the workspace. Thanks to large sliding doors, the building opens up to its surroundings - engaging flexibly with the garden, the site’s residents, and the wider neighborhood. By opening the office to outsiders and using the workspace and garden as spaces for experimentation, the project becomes a laboratory for alternative ways of making and designing. 0000 ACME Visual Identity ACME doesn’t have a single, fixed logo. Instead, its identity evolves - shaped by its members. Starting from the pure RGB primaries - Red (255,0,0), Green (0,255,0), and Blue (0,0,255) - the colours blend in ever-changing ways, reflecting the collective growth and diversity of ACME over time.
